Governor Mike Pence of Indiana seems to have caved into enormous pressure and will ask the state legislature for new legislation to make it clear that Christian florists and bakers could be forced to participate in weddings that violate their religious beliefs.
Last week, Indiana joined 19 other states and the federal government by enacting a law to protect religious believers from governmental encroachment on religious freedom. Such legislation was cited in the recent Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision that determined religious employers could not be forced to supply abortion drugs to employees under ObamaCare.
In a packed press conference this morning, Pence did not give specifics about what the new legislation would say, only that he wants it to make clear that Indiana businesses will not be able to discriminate against anyone for any reason. He said the religion freedom bill he signed was never considered by him or the bills sponsors to allow a license to discriminate.
Such legislation has been read as supporting businesses and individuals not just to avoid supplying abortion drugs, but also allowing certain businesses to avoid serving gay weddings, usually bakers and photographers some who are now being run out of business for refusing to serve what they see as a religious ceremony that violates their own deeply held beliefs.
Pence and the state of Indiana absorbed a tsunami of protest from the main stream media, major corporations, athletes, movie stars and gay leaders after enacting the bill......
....Social conservatives, a base Pence would need if he tries to make it through the GOP primaries, were immediately upset.
Columnist Robert Knight tells Breitbart News, Mr. Pence would do well to find out what Scott Walker had for breakfast when he faced down union mobs, the media and the ruling elites.....

RINOs cave.
The Left uses violence and intimidation.
That’s what happened here.
The Right thinks that a law is passed, that’s it, time to go home.
Our people should be on the streets in the face of the perverts and pedophiles.
Pence is just astonished that it came to this and now he’s whimpering. In Indiana they aren’t used to the tactic. But he and the rest of the non-deviant population need to get out there in Division Strength and shout down the Barbarians.
Because that’s who they are. They use street tactics and thuggery.
Can’t fold in the face of that. But Pence needs to know his people are behind him.
This wording makes little sense either since Indiana has no state law that bars LGBT discrimination.
This is a meltdown, Pence will say anything.
He has just ended any credibility he ever had with me, and I had thought (back around 2008-2010) that he might have Presidential qualities.
Was he on the point of blubbing? It sounded like that on Rush’s show.
What’s really happening is the left is moving in for the final kill that will mean the end of the Christian influence on laws in this country.
What you're seeing is the new millenial Alinsky tactics at work. They use social media to whip up a frenzy which in turn makes the broadcast media frothy. The digital age has given new meaning to the term "storm in a teacup."
Pence is toast.
So is his party.
These gutless neutered RINO’s are being exposed one by one.
Bye-Bye Mikey.
“I feel for Pence,”
I never feel sorry for losers and traitors to the cause. Freepers here are too soft, that’s why we lose.
This has been an odd debate because there has been little in the way of detailed explanation about just what the law would have done, and just what changes might be made.
He will pay for his cowardice. Maybe not today, maybe not next week, but he’ll get his someday.
I sincerely hope that the legislature tells the coward to go jump in the lake.
WOW - I have no words for how easily this guy gave up.
I tend to agree. It appears to be a PR mistake. I think this law was never intended to discriminate.
Not long ago, people mentioned Pence as a presidential contender. Good thing we all found out what a spineless wimp he is. We don’t need another weakling.
Yes, I know. But it isn’t substantive nor more real that spam. Misplaced and mis-prioritized perceptions that could be countered by putting these intrusions in context and talking to the citizens (voters in Indiana) rather than some media putz with less than half a brain.
The Constitution is dust. We are now under mob rule. There will be no way anything good will come of this result. The screeching of the left wing commies has become the rule of the land. They have taken the squeaky wheel adage to new levels and are winning. Just another step closer to the demise of America.
Pence is cowardly GOPer slime. If he didn’t have the fortitude why didn’t he let someone from the legislature take up the cause here. Now that the MSM smells blood they won’t interview anyone other than this gutless wonder.
I don’t really care. What does some Gerbil abuser in San Francisco have to do with laws in Indiana. If they boycott Indiana, okay then - they would stay long and they wouldn’t spend anything except on trolling while they’re there.. I’d say Indiana Gerbils would cheer and rejoice.
Sad to say (and to observe and to hear) many people — including governors, senators, religious leaders and others in positions of authority and leadership you would expect would be willing to defend what they believe — are too often scared senseless by the meanest, most intolerant people in the country: The ugly bullies of the homosexual activist cult.
