Tim Cook: Apple Will Oppose Bills Like Indiana's 'Religious Freedom' Law
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook on Sunday broadened his criticism of a new law in Indiana, which opponents say could be used to discriminate against gay people, to other states that he says have similar laws.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law Thursday, sparking an outcry from those, including Cook, who say it could be used to protect businesses that refuse to serve gay people. The law's supporters say it will prevent the government from forcing business owners from providing services that go against their religious beliefs.
"These bills rationalize injustice by pretending to defend something many of us hold dear," Cook wrote in a Washington Post op-ed, referring not only to Indiana's law, which goes into effect in July, but also to those of "more than two dozen states."

Is it, now ...
That's nice.
We'll see what happens.
You may l[i]ve to see it yourself. Most will!
I hope you're as prepared to be wrong, as you are prepared to be right.
If I’m wrong, I die and I go to be with the Messiah of Israel IMMEDIATELY.
If I’m right, I don’t die and I go IMMEDIATELY to be with the Lord.
I’ve got it good both ways! ... :-) ...
WRONG!
Microsoft 10 years ago!

Good.
That’s the sanest way to look at it, IMO.
Some folks get so tied into their end-times predictions that they despair when the prediction turns out to be wrong.
So I don’t worry about it too much.
Jesus has saved me. Jesus is saving me. Jesus will save me. My help is in The Lord, who made Heaven and Earth.
Nothing else really matters.
You have a short memory. Not exactly the same, but this is from Microsoft, 10 years ago!

Very good! I like it that someone talks about salvation as the three-part process ... Justification, Sanctification and Glorification! ... :-) ...
(You dont have to worry about Tim Cook because he wont go anywhere on this legislation ... as the support is strong for it. He may yap and yammer about it for while, but thats all that is going to happen in the long run. The whole thing will fall apart, and then hell get back to the PRODUCTS which are sold at Apple, because the PRODUCTS are what the business is about ... and its NOT the homosexual agenda!)
I hope beyond hope that you are right. I love Apple products, and I’m typing this on a MacBook Air. I was also about to switch to an Iphone from Samsung.
However, you sound quite naive saying that Tim Cook will shut up representing Apple in social politics unless he feels he has to. You can bet that he’s getting a whole lot of kudos, ‘ataboy’, and heroic recognition from liberals everywhere, and he probably has no input from any conservative sources on the other side. It’s only if demand for Apple products starts suffering because of his stance that he might dial it down a bit.
It will be a sacrifice for me not to buy from Apple anymore, but I have to follow my conscience and not fund those who hate Christianity and want it destroyed. And make no mistake about it. That’s exactly what’s happening. If we Christians band together and defend ourselves before it’s too late, we’ll have a chance. If not, we’ll go meekly into that good night, all because Starbucks coffee is delicious, and Apple products are wonderful.
I wish you the very best in your own decisions, and God bless you regardless.
Thanks ... and I appreciate your kind consideration of what I was saying. I understand what you’re talking about. From a Biblical perspective, I look at it from the perspective of (1) the meat dedicated to idols and (2) what Jesus related in regards to the wheat and the tares, and not pulling up the tares, because of damaging the wheat.
In the secular perspective ... well ... I’ve already related that from my earlier posts. But, I do consider it from the Biblical perspective, too, as I related in #1 and #2.
:o])
I’ll “out myself” as being saved by the Messiah of Israel, if that’s what you mean! And I’ll out myself as being taken away by the Messiah of Israel by the coming Rapture, or taken IMMEDIATELY as we speak (or maybe later) if the Lord decides.
AND ... I’ll out myself as being a VERY SATISFIED APPLE CUSTOMER, too!
BUT THEN ... you could have gotten all that by looking at my FREEPER PAGE! ... LOL ...
OH ... one more thing that you should be aware of ... YOU are “buying from the devil” whenever you buy something from a non-Christian! Just thought you should know.
Star Traveler, I respect you, so I will refrain from engaging in a debate. I hope you’re right, but I am in such a rage over this I will not be happy until/unless Tim Cook is fired and Apple comes out publicly against this nonsense.
If I had to replace all of my toys tomorrow, I truly don’t know what brand I would buy, but until Tim Cook is gone, it would not be an Apple product.
Please know that I love my Apple products and Apple service has been incredible..... Tim Cook is destroying Apple with this ‘in your face’ pervert and anti-religion crap.
I will not give Apple another dime until they fire Tim Cook....and they better do that very soon.
Those guys ultimately wont care.
Apple > conservative principals.
He cant even muster enough to even say “This is a stupid move”. Just repeated diatribes confessing that he doesnt care what they do because Apple products are just so special to him.
I said years ago that if you want to see what Freepers sound like when they act like leftists, one only have to find an Apple story. Hell, these days it’s even worse. Many of them fully will support Apple’s attacks on conservative principals by simply staying silent if they can get away with it, but yet they feel like they are part of some cool club because they use Apple’s stuff.
Give them a week and they will right back to acting like this never happened. Screaming about “Apple haters”.
I suspect I’m actually TALKING TO THE DEVIL when I’m talking to you, as you seem to represent him very well ... but, as you can see ... that hasn’t stopped me from talking to you! ... LOL ...
Thanks for making it clear what you think. And I can respect that.
I just wish all the Microsoft users on Free Republic were as principled as you!!
If someone wants to find out what an APPLE-HATER TROLL sounds like on Free Republic, all they have to do is listen to you!
I can only speak about my own case Star Traveler, and this is not a black and white issue. That’s why I totally respect your decision, despite that it’s totally different from mine.
My biggest problem with Cook is that he is specifically representing Apple, and not only himself in a fight that is not relevant to the fortunes of Apple Corporation. Furthermore, the law itself is designed to find a happy medium between all the parties involved. The status quo is that the argument of religious freedom cannot even be used by someone who refuses service to someone else. Some Christians have seen their businesses essentially shut down as they were targeted by homosexuals for their Christianity, even though they could have easily gone to a different business. The business owners under the new law could still be found guilty of discrimination by the court, but they could at least bring up religious freedom as an ARGUMENT!
So what bothers me about those against Indiana, including Cook, is that they are fine to have Christians totally disarmed and helpless to be forced into behaviors that are against their conscience, and they could not even defend themselves in court. That mentality is so bigoted by Cook, coupled with him representing Apple Corporation in the fight, prevents me in good conscience to enjoy any future Apple product I buy, knowing part of the money will be used to destroy fellow Christians.
Here’s a wonderful article I found most useful to understand what the law does and doesn’t do:

I also want to apologize about the invectives thrown at you by fellow Freepers. I love this site because of the high level of argument presented. If I wanted a screaming insulting match, I would have gone to a liberal site!
Thanks for the support, doorgunner69. I honestly do not recall deliberately misusing your name. I may have shortened it but I cannot even think of a disparaging way of using your name. Thanks. I do sometimes refer to 867V309 just as "86" in my references to him, just as I might refer to Star Traveler as "Star."
867V309 has mischaracterized my interest in Apple in almost every post on Apple threads where he "participates," if you can call his presence in Apple threads participation. I call him on his mis-information and smearing tactics he uses against Apple users. . . just as you've called him on his "Swordswallower" insult he attached to me in this post without having the decency to ping me before that insulting comment. I did indeed post this thread to the PING list as soon as I learned of it, not through any cowardice as some on this thread are claiming, but through my normal practice of posting both good and bad about Apple.
As it happens I was driving from about 7:45PM last night until after 1AM. . . and did not even look at FreeRepublic until very late in the morning today. . . and find that I am being excoriated as a coward for not posting in a timely manner by the Apple-Hate Mongering brigade for something i usually get excoriated by the Apple-Hate brigade for doing at all. With the Apple-Haters you cannot win, no matter what one does.
