The Domino's Pizza delivery driver shot to death inside his car early Tuesday morning (March 24) in the Lower 9th Ward has been identified by company officials as Michael Price.
The 36-year-old husband and father of three young children, ages 8, 6 and 2, lived in the Lower 9th and was on his way to make a delivery when he was murdered, said Robert Tedesco, regional vice president for local Domino's franchisee RPM Pizza LLC, which operates the Franklin Avenue Domino's where Price worked for the last year or so.
"He was an exemplary team member," Tedesco said. "He always came to work smiling, doing what we asked him to do. He didn't get to come home this time, and that's a tragedy."
New Orleans police found Price's bullet-riddled body shortly before 1 a.m. in the 6100 block of North Roman Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives are working to identify suspects and a possible motive, said NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble. Per company policy, Price had no more than $20 on him when he left for the delivery, Tedesco said. He had not completed the delivery when he was killed, Tedesco said, adding that the delivery destination was not far from where he was found.

Remember that idealistic white girl from San Francisco who showed up in NOLA a few years back? She was some kind of activist. She lasted something like 24 or so hours before they found her body. Case is still unsolved. She was last seen alive peddling away from a club or bar on her bike
Just think; in all probability he died to provide amusement for a negro or two.
A go fund me account has been set up for the family. I would encourage Freepers to donate. http://www.gofundme.com/pyf5n0
Just some regular workplace violence. Nothing to see here. Move along.
No face-to-face exposure to the locals, period.
It's either that, or a "pizza desert".
Depends on where they are. I'd never be one in an area with high crime.
I'm surprised it hasn't actually come to that. What you will probably see in the not too distant future are robots doing these pizza deliveries. Armed, bullet-resistant robots.
I almost never carry cash, and when I put the tip on the CC receipt, they almost NEVER withdraw the amount of the tip...I don’t understand these people.
I rightly fault the company: it seems they are trying to cheat the lowly delivery boy in doing this.
The MRAP might be overkill, but I'll bet a used Brinks-style armored truck would work. Plenty of room for pizza and 12v warming ovens on the inside, plus advertising space on the outside. It could play music through loudspeakers, like the old ice cream trucks.
Of course, if they used that rig only in bad neighborhoods, it'd somehow be discriminatory.
Liberal PC demands dead pizza delivery persons rather than innocent people in bad neighborhoods getting pizza/food delivered to them.
That's why my idea of robots/humanoids delivering pizza or other types of food in high crime areas will eventually happen.
Just imagine one of the human-looking, ARMED!!! robots getting out of their vehicle to deliver the food and being accosted by the usual ferals. The end result would be one or more dead ferals. Word would get around.
A pivotal moment in my conservative transformation. d:^)
they are just in cya mode....”harping” as if “harping” is like protecting and arming these vulnerable workers...
I agree with you.
Discrimination is already being mentioned in that it is only the Lower 9 that won’t get delivery at night. Some are saying it means Dominos doesn’t care about the safety of drivers in OTHER parts of the city. Slick. Bottom line, crime like this is mostly ‘isolated’- to Orleans Parish. If your ‘culture’ produces thugs who kill for a few bucks you don’t DESERVE any kind of delivery. Go get your food, etc, or do without.
You do realize you’re talking about people who rip copper out of huge AC units and even railings from churches. I’m sure anything robotic would be quickly grabbed and sold for scrap. The armored car idea is the best-but if you have to go to that extreme you might as well use an armed tank. WHY service an area that dangerous at all? Why is selling $5 worth of dough and sauce worth endangering a life?
Not if robo-pizza guy (RPG) was also equipped with a sensor that electrified him when some unworthy person tried to grab him. Remember RPG could be visually monitored by people back at pizza central for these sorts of events.
The intention is that RPG would be a dangerous uh "person" to try to rob. Very dangerous for certain feral types.
A logical approach would be to form a united group of all food delivery companies and approach the city police for updates on where the "No-Go" zones are located. That might not be a perfect solution, but it would a smart move for all concerned. Use that same template in all parishes or counties where the police are inclined to cooperate. Make it simple - divide the map into numbered grid squares and get police updates by telephone. Try to get all fancy and use web-based maps and the media will use it against the vendors.
Never say never. About robots that is. But in the meantime, whole sections of cities should be no-go zones. If the residents want a pizza, like you say, there’s always Chef Boyardee.
Very workable IF the people monitoring give a damn and aren’t slackers and IF the ‘arming’ of the unit isn’t considered ‘dangerous’ and a menace to the public. Imagine feral mom sending little darling thugette out to get pizza and the innocent baby gets shocked. Think the criminals won’t just shoot the ‘bot? IMO only civilization deserves civilized services-if you’re sub-human, eat out of the garbage.
