The United States is becoming much more racially and ethnically diverse. At the same time, it’s becoming more unequal in terms of wealth and income. These two trends are combining in an uncomfortable way: the wealth and income divide is happening along racial and ethnic lines.
The typical black household now has just 6% of the wealth of the typical white household; the typical Latino household had just 8%, according to The Racial Wealth Gap: Why Policy Matters, by Demos, a public policy organization promoting democracy and equality, and the Institute on Assets and Social Policy.
In absolute terms, the median white household had $111,146 in wealth holdings in 2011, compared to $7,113 for the median black household and $8,348 for the median Latino household. (All figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau Survey of Income and Program Participation.)
This is what is called the racial wealth gap.

I am white but Dr. Ben Carson is black. His black mom and my white parents were the same type of parents. Parents’ rules/expectations matter. When I entered elementary school at 6 years old, my parents let me know they expected good grades on my report card (can you say A's?). I knew my job was going to school and learning. When I finished first grade, I was promoted to the third grade (skipped second grade). I knew even then I was going to college, it was expected by my parents and I liked learning. I got a bachelor's degree they paid for, then two more degrees I paid for since I had a teacher job, then a school counselor job, then a professional counselor's/psychological examiner job.
At the time of my bachelors and masters, there were no grants/govn. college loans, etc. One just had to have the money on his/her own, either from family or from jobs they got as they were going to college. Now days, a student can get a govn. loan and head to college.
Extensive university degrees are not the only way to prepare for a job. I worked at a Jr. college and we had a two year associate degree in numerous types of vocational programs. After that two year degree, very good jobs could be had and they could end up making more money than those who got a four year degree or advanced degree.
So, I think parents of whatever nationality/color they are, influence, set the first rules about their children learning. If children don't get that, their future may be less bright than it could be.
High school drop outs seldom have a good standard of living. Yes, occasionally it happens, but not for the majority of cases.
Instead of others blaming whites for what they have and black’s/Latino’s don't, blame the parents of these kids for not wanting to be like whites and go to school. They seem to reject whatever whites do and not want to be like whites who generally have a better standard of living. Until their attitudes change to a work ethic, nothing will change and will likely get worse.
Whites don’t burn down their neighborhood.
I know what a donk is because I once had a car magazine as toilet reading material. A donk is a 70s/80s chevy caprice, often pimped out with airshocks, flashy wheels, leopard-spot blankets on the seats, giant subwoofers in the trunk and ugly paint jobs. Costs a fortune for the doodads, but usually remians a broken-down 35-year-old hunkajunk underneath. Whitey usually doesn’t have one.
The term is "N----r Rich."
But... but...
Wouldn’t that be “acting white”?
Can’t have that, y’know...
No, but they waste $120 a month at Starbucks.
Please translate. Almost lunch you gave me a good laugh.
Mom and Dad never had to tell we kids we would have to work. We observed this everyday and knew what we had to do.
I am high school educated, have saved since I was 23. At 53 I am surprised how little by little, steady saving really works.
I am concerned though I dont trust the govt and the 401k is tied to it.
“Someone tell that to Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Scott Walker”
I don’t know about Jobs, but Gates and Walker DID go to college, they just didn’t stay until they graduated.
Yeh the white family managed to drag themselves through high school graduation and maybe college. Stayed out of prison and off crack. Didn’t join a gang and get full body tats. Avoided 3-4 illegitimate kids by age 20. Got a job and showed up everyday. Saved up a downpayment and bought a house. What a bunch of privileged racist oppressors.
Thank you! I was afraid to google it at work, if you know what I mean?
What about entrepreneurship rates? I’d bet they are easily 16:1 in favor of whites.
1. Stay married
2. Put off “wants”
3. Save 10% of every paycheck
I’ve noticed that most blacks, HAVE to have that BM’er, or Mercedes, or Lexus. They also HAVE to have, the bling, wardrobe and accessories to go with it.
Image is what it’s about. When you live life like that, it’s no wonder most are either bankrupt or close. Nevermind the ones living paycheck to paycheck.
First job out of college I did loans. Oh the stories I have on supposed adults acting like spoiled toddlers.
THE correlating factor is a father married to the mother and living in the house.
“Number One reason: LBJ and the so-called Great Society -——
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., warned Lyndon Johnson that his Great Society program would destroy the black family.
Institutionalizing the substitution of government benevolence for personally responsible parenthood within the bond of marriage has proven disastrous.
The kids at our vocational HS program finish able to frame houses, complete rough plumbing, wire almost anything, and most of them can do engine and transmission work, as well as intermediate welding.
That's a MUCH brighter future than being a grad student in almost anything after four years of Marxism, drugs, and sex.
The "college is essential" meme is a lie.
At the same time, its becoming more unequal in terms of wealth and income.
...
Big Government will always do that.
Good point.
One day I managed to sit behind him and see what he was studying.
Pages of differential equations.
It really is a matter of the content of one's character and not the color of one's skin.
