OLATHE, Kan. 27 students at Olathe Northwest High School have tested positive for TB.
Those who tested positive for TB are not contagious, do not feel sick and do not have TB symptoms, according to a press release from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
315 students began being tested after a student at Olathe Northwest High School was diagnosed with active tuberculosis.
According to the press release, health officials began calling those with a positive TB test on Monday. Letters were mailed home to those who tested negative.
The number of individuals with TB infection does not exceed what we would anticipate in this setting, Lougene Marsh, director of the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, said in the press release. Of course, we had hoped we wouldnt find any additional TB cases, but we knew this was a possibility. Thats why we took such thorough steps to test everyone who might have been in close contact with the first confirmed case of TB disease.
Those who tested positive for TB will receive chest x-rays and begin treatment with antibiotics to kill the TB bacteria and prevent the development of the TB disease. Care for the students will be provided free of charge by the KDHE and KCDHE.
Early identification and treatment of TB infection is the key to preventing progression to TB disease, Marsh said in the release. Thats why we are working so closely with the school and KDHE to investigate this case and assure that all precautions are being taken for the safety of everyone in the school and the community.
Students will be tested again on May 5 because it can take up to eight weeks for TB bacteria to show up positive in a TB test.
Right out of a Victorian novel. Think of TB outbreak at the Lowood School from “Jane Eyre” Who is patient zero?
The elected officials are rising up in their disgust and intend to throw out the ELECTORATE.
They mean to replace us.
The school reflects the area. 80% white, and 10% Hispanic.
Some Illegal Alien to than for it no doubt
They wouldn’t tell you if they knew even though it is your right to know.
would be more interesting to know how many Obama Illegal plants ended up in that area,Hummmm?
TB is pretty rare in the US so I would expect that “patient zero” is an immigrant from someplace ...these days from Mexico, Central America or possibly Africa places where TB is not uncommon. My wife was a school nurse and she had a similar case with a Bosnian refugee who had a positive TB test. Fortunately the refugee was not TB positive and had been vaccinated with a BCG vaccine in Europe to prevent TB. This vaccine gives a positive TB skin test. A neighboring school was not so lucky and had an active TB case. Students and teachers there with close contact had to take anti-TB medications for most of a year and the whole school had to be skin tested.
Missing in this article is information about the medication the students have to take for a year. It can cause liver damage.
How would you like your son and daughter being exposed to an illegal, having to take these meds for a year, and then needing a liver transplant a few years down the road.
You can guarantee that it is either an illegal alien or someone who has had recent contact with one.
I have heard the TB strain found in these dairies has never been found in the U.S., and that it came from South America.:

We all know how that was likely to occur.
I’d be willing to bet that the TB came from mexico.
Liar.
He's a qualified public health official, and he expects an 8.5% tuberculosis infection rate in the flatlands west of Kansas City???
We need the demographics of the 27 positives, pronto.
Wow!
27 positives at Olathe HS
School District mobilizing for widespread testing
Kansas University one sick, full testing
County jails won’t disclose how many positives, testing going on
Websites turning off comments.
Recent research proves TB hides in the bone marrow forever. There is no permanent cure - only long term remission.
Public health is owned by DHS drones.
Mandatory TB testing every year in school?
My granddaughter goes to school in this district. She’s in 8th grade and will be going to another Olathe HS but I wish that they would test the entire district. Her school is at least 10% hispanic, probably higher.
