BARRINGTON — Texas senator Ted Cruz was a long way from home on Sunday afternoon, making his first-ever stump in Strafford County.
Cruz, a first-time senator elected in 2012, joined fellow Republicans at a “chili and cornbread” lunch at the new Turbocam facility on Redemption Road. Although the snow fell heavily at times, the turnout was at least double that of what had been expected, requiring a room change to accommodate the 100-plus attendees.
Whether Cruz's visit was simply one aiming to promote his upcoming book release or a potential 2016 presidential run was the question on everyone's mind.
After asking that very question, one attendee yelled, “No dodging!”
“Well, I was in Iowa last week, South Carolina yesterday and New Hampshire today,” Cruz hinted. “I am looking at it very, very seriously.”
Cruz spoke to the group after leading a prayer in which he praised God that Americans are able to live in a country where they can worship him freely “without the government getting in the way.”
“Wow, God bless the great state of New Hampshire,” he began, awed by the large turnout. Cruz joked that Turbocam's first invitation had gone to Hillary Clinton (D), to which the crowd let out a roar of “boooos.”
Tongue-in-cheek aside, Cruz continued by saying that the country is nearing the “point of no return.”
“Every one of us knows the threat facing this country is enormous,” he said. “If it continues like this for another four to eight years, we risk losing the greatest country in the world.”
Cruz briefly outlined three major points of contention with the Obama administration. Specifically, he wants to see job growth in the private sector, the simplification of the way the Internal Revenue Service collects taxes, and regulatory reform by way of repealing “every word of ObamaCare.”
Although addressing the need for more jobs, Cruz suggested abolishing the IRS, which employs 110,000 agents. Instead, he proposed that those agents be lined up along the border with Mexico.
“If you saw them there, you'd turn around and go home, too,” he laughed.
The son of a legal Cuban immigrant and the first Latino to serve as a U.S. senator from Texas, Cruz said he is both optimistic and pessimistic on immigration.
“We've got to get serious about securing the border and stopping the problem of illegal immigration,” he said. “We need to streamline and improve legal immigration.”
This could be done, in his opinion, by focusing on bipartisan areas of agreement.
He would also like to see “needed” funding restored to the military, through the introduction of a Republican majority. However, in response to a question from an attendee, Cruz stated that the way big money works in political campaigns is designed “so no one can beat an incumbent politician.”
Still, he held fast to his belief that he is “first and foremost a Constitutionalist” who believes “in free speech and the First Amendment.”
“Everyone has a right to effectively communicate,” he said. He added that although some debate that money does not equate to free speech, “money absolutely can be speech.”
“In the Senate race, I had $35 million in nasty attack ads against me and you know what? It was their Constitutional right to do so,” he said. “The answer is not to muzzle citizens, but empower citizens to speak the loudest.”
Overall, he said the encouragement he has received to run for president has been “breathtaking.”
“Everywhere across the country, people are waking up and realizing we've got to change this,” he said. “Every one of us feels the urgency. We have got to win in Nov. '16!”
Representative Warren Groen, of Rochester, believes Cruz is just the person for the job.
“He has the courage of his convictions and dares to speak to that effect,” he said. “He loves the Constitution and wants the government to abide by it.”
Cruz's book, “A Time for Truth: Reigniting The Miracle Of America,” is set to be released on June 30. Strafford County Republicans sponsored the luncheon, which was free to all registered Republicans and undeclared voters.

Another report of another Cruz “campaign” stop where the crowd was double the expected size.
While the point of return might be near, it is because that point was recently passed. The will be no return.
Barack Obama has seen to that. Absent nobama the distance will grow
How refreshing to see a politician who will answer a question without (1) completely dodging and (2) committing prematurely. Cruz has a definite way with words.
There is always armed revolt
Big Media’s collective head will explode.
Some of us haven’t been castrated yet.
If the point of no return was about the national debt, we’ve passed that point. At this point, you would pretty much have to charge every person living in the United States, assuming this is entirely devoted just to paying off the debt and nothing else 60,000 dollars for one year. Even fractions of that in one year would be unacceptable even to a liberal.
No Retreat, No Surrender
The media lives in denial about how big the national debt is. If they had any sense, they would be pushing long and hard to say that our nation was too deep in debt years ago, and to vote in representatives who would be willing to vote down expenses and pay off the national debt, which is pretty much a government ponzi scheme.
I predict a Cruz presidency will force Boehner and McConnell to resign due to the grassroots’ outrage for their complicit involvement in feeding the obamanation. Yes, then all will be well in the Miracle of America!
Near, Near! I think that we are well past that point, we are in uncharted waters, the president now rules by decree and neither congress nor the supreme court does anything to stop him. We are well past the point of no return.
When I listen to Mark Levin, the radio carries "ABC Radio News" at the top of the hour. It's reliably about the latest antics of organized faggotry. Meaningful stuff ... like debts, deficits, and looming economic collapse are never mentioned.
Read this one folks, it’s important.
I think armed revolt is all we have left, but Ted might be able to course correct. We will have to see what intestinal fortitude we Americans still have.
Excellent! A must read!
> There is always armed revolt
That will not succeed without a substantial number of nationwide organizations and much strategical planning, training, and funding. It also needs to have righteous and specifics goals and be for the will of the people to succeed. To deal with the left you will need propganda groups to offset their lies and deception and collusion with the MSM. You would also need to know what you are up against - specifically the type of training and response there will be. Otherwise you will have your a$$ handed to you big time.
