Earlier this school year, a sixth-grader in the gifted-and-talented program at Bedford Middle School in Bedford, Virginia was suspended for one year after an assistant principal found something that looked like a marijuana leaf in his backpack.
The student, the 11-year-old son of two school teachers, had to enroll in the district's alternative education program and be homeschooled. He was evaluated by a psychiatrist for substance abuse problems, and charged with marijuana possession in juvenile court. In the months since September, he's become withdrawn, depressed, and he suffers from panic attacks. He is worried his life is over, according to his mother, and that he will never get into college.

Public screwels are a disgrace.
Reason #368,908,562,929,435 why mu kids will NEVER be made to suffer the fools who run our public schools.
If the parents are really teachers in public school, they have money. Why not send the kid to private school? LOTS of public-school teachers do that.
Public education system: run by morons, in order to manufacture the morons of the future.
Public school: moron factory.
The government has been ruining lives over drugs for over 100 years.
These are the kind of things a school district and administrators and even doctors should be sued over.....relentlessly. They get so carried away with themselves and each other. I pity the children. It is the modern form of child abuse and it marks them for life.
Principal was mad because it wasn’t .....
“He is worried his life is over, according to his mother, and that he will never get into college.”
Your life is just beginning kid. You can now sue for millions. You wont have to worry about college. You’ll be a rich kid before you even enter high school.
Sounds like lawsuit time. And maybe a beatdown for the principal.
By the way, kid. I get 1/3rd of your settlement for the legal advice :-)
Bullying (which is what this is) only ever stops when the bully(s) is/are made to pay some sort of a personal price for their BS.
Virginia school suspends an 11-year-old for one year over a leaf that wasnt marijuana
With parents that are morons and school officials that are cretins..
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?..
If the boy was merely joking about the leaf, then the school is overreacting.
If, however, the boy was attempting to sell it under false pretenses (i.e. as the school drug dealer), well, then I’d have to agree that he has a problem that needs to be addressed.
Whatever the case, homeschooling will do him a world of good. My guess is that his parents (as schoolteachers themselves) oppose homeschooling; otherwise, this boy would be making new friends right now, and he’d be very active in all of the opportunities that the homeschool community offers. It’s up to his parents to make it work.
Another article reported that the student was bragging that he had marijuana and a lighter in his backpack. The parents like so many today side with their perfect child who would never do such a thing. Drugs are not a joke. They destroy lives. Better he learns this lesson early.
Imagine if it was a japanese maple leaf in the shape of a gun. Aw Lawdy, I done gots the vapours.
” Drugs are not a joke. They destroy lives. Better he learns this lesson earound.”
Bullcrap. These idiot laws are destroying more lives than drugs themselves ever could.
L
If a kid has non-drug materials and is saying they are drugs, whether they are joking around or whatever, punish them for being dumbasses, and give them detention, but don’t expel them and charge them in court and subject them to daily drug searches like you would a kid who had actual drugs.
I also believe kids should be allowed to carry over the counter pills like aspirin or tylenol if given by their parents.
A rose is a rose but the left hijacked the nice word public as a euphemism for government. Even the nice word school has been hijacked for what they do very little of. The correct term is government indoctrination center.
