Conservative media personality Glenn Beck declared renowned neurosurgeon and potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson's presidential career over and branded him a "lunatic" last week for calling homosexuality "absolutely" a choice because of prison sex.
Carson told CNN last Wednesday that he believed homosexuality is "absolutely" a choice citing as an example that "a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight and when they come out, they're gay So, did something happen while they were in there?"
Reacting to Carson's comments, on his radio show Friday, Beck called them "ridiculous".
"Goodbye to his presidential career," said Beck. "It's over. It's over. There is no way to recover from that. That just sounds like a lunatic That is just a ridiculous statement on a million fronts. A ridiculous statement."
"It's not just that he didn't see [the question] coming," Beck continued. "It's that he just thought that was a good answer. That was good enough for him. Just [imagine] I'm at a cocktail party and I'm talking to a friend and they say 'well yeah, you know, you go to prison and you're straight, you get out and you're gay,' don't you look at your friend I don't care if he's the guy who works at the 7-Eleven and he's not running for president ever don't you go, 'That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard'?"
Carson has since apologized for the analogy but in a reaction to Beck's comments, Carson's spokesman told Breitbart that the attacks won't stop Carson from being his own man.
"Dr. Carson has a very deep well of support across this country, and he's in the process of gauging its strength and potential. We recognize there are many challenges, and one comment cannot and will not derail Ben Carson from answering the many American voices desperate for real leadership," noted the spokesman.
"His position on gay marriage is nearly identical to all the possible candidates. He just did something very un-Washington; he told a reporter the truth about the right of states to determine their own laws reflecting the wishes of their own citizens. He apologized for his prison analogy but not for his position on gay marriage," he added.
Carson is former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. A position he rose to at the age of 33 which made him the youngest major division director in the hospital's history. He was also a co-director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center.
Fascinating story Larry.
It seems to me that people like Glenn Beck are very “tightly wound,” so to speak. The talent and ambition and energy that brings them to national prominence is a volatile and somewhat dangerous mixture. They pick up on an idea and ride it for all it’s worth. They are highly opportunistic, take themselves very seriously, and are under enormous pressure to make good on all kinds of commitments they’ve made to various powerful individuals.
Keeping all that stuff straight in their minds can sometimes make it appear that they’ve lost their marbles. Other times, just the sheer degree of stress they’re under drives them to drink, as everyone knows.
Rush Limbaugh certainly seems to have all that stuff under control, but I think Rush is unusually intelligent, and that intelligence has enabled him to define his success track with an eye toward the long term. As I recall, he was in some sort of discussion process with Mr. Beck back in 2009, but nothing seems to have come of it.
It must be fun to hobnob with such folk from time to time. Thanks for the glimpse you give into that world.
Are pedophiles born that way or is it a choice....
Same here. And I was once a huge fan of his.
Everyday is FReakOut Friday for Beck it seems.
My wife performs that valuable service for me---the one Ceasar had a slave do---which is to say, "remember, all glory is fleeting." She is in NO awe at all of Hollywood celebrities. She won't even go to parties that I'm invited to with big celebs you'd know.
But part of it is that rare trait that Reagan had: the ability to listen to your advisors while still trusting your instincts. He knew when to rely on Deever, Meese, Regan, and when to go with his gut. It's a very tough road to hoe. By nature, your advisors usually will be MORE conservative than you are (business wise) and urge caution. The visionary is usually the guy who wants to push the envelope. (It's odd, cause you'd think they would be willing to "roll the dice" with other people's money and reputation---but I guess it's that old not wanting to rock the money boat.) Anyway, it's always a very clear warning when ALL your advisors abandon you.
Thanks. Have you seen the 10th anniversary edition? We brought it up through Zero’s first term. Last edition quit at 2006. So there is a lot of new stuff in there, not to mention a thorough scrub for errors and general revision to include the “Four Pillars” of American Exceptionalism.
Sounds like someone in Beck’s family is a HOMOSEXUAL.
Beck keeps flying down the highway, smacking the guardrail on one side after the other, I thing he’s disappointed that not enough people are taking him seriously, so he just gets crazier and crzier. One of these days he’s going to bust through the guardrail , spin a few donuts and head off in a new direction on the David Brock Raceway.
Heterosexual drives are a rational instinct built into human beings else we go extinct.... is homosexual drives an equally rational instinct?
It's a true statement on a million rears too if you want to check with the prison warden.
[[Glenn Beck Calls Ben Carson a ‘Lunatic,’]]
This coming from the man who had such devastating info on Obama that o’s political career would not survive the release of said in, not once, but twice, on two separate occasions with different ‘devastating info’- big buildup for months both times- hyping it every day- promising that the o regime would fall every day- weeping about it even, and then pfffffft- nothing-
They say that people often project their own shortcomings onto others- and it seems that beck calling carson a lunatic proves this
Glenn Beck, the Managerial State’s puppetboy.
[[OK, lets ask ourselves...
How does a conservative, who is a devout Christian questions like:
Do you believe Homosexuality is a choice or in born?
Do you approve of abortion in cases of rape or incest?
Do you believe the world was created in 6 days?]]
Here’s my answer:
“You’ll just have to elect me to find out- trust me, you’ll like what you find once I’m elected”
(Like Nancy did when pimping the HC law- ‘gotta pass it to find out what’s in it, and trust me you’ll like what you find”)
I think that would have broad appeal. Of course some credit card company would probably have me gunned down in the streets. :O
The problem is what is reasonable to address the reality of having the lender paid back in cheaper money--an unfortunate effect of the influences of quacks like John Maynard Keynes, and the unwillingness of politicians to restrain their inclinations to buy votes with programs that make no sense for any other purpose.
He owns his radio broadcast and TV station and I think he makes $80 million a year so his career may not be quite over yet. Just saying.
Perhaps he is diversifying and funding their venture silently?
He’ll probably have his hardcore disciples for awhile, kinda like Wally George, but as far as mainstream conservatism is concerned he’s a spent force.
