One Associate Degree(accomplished during high-school years), three Bachelor Degrees, three Master Degrees, one Artist Diploma, one Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate started in the fall, they survived me not having a teaching diploma or for that matter finishing collage and they were not help back or told they were dumb.
Downside....I repeated "back to your work" or "go on to the next problem" after every single problem for two children for 12 years on good days, on bad ones I would have them run around the house after every problem to run off energy. Home schooling gave three people a chance to have exciting lives instead of being held down and put in a box and told they are failures creating failures.
Hope they’re planning or already homeschooling their own kids! Being a second generation homeschooler is awesome. I keep finding great curriculum for my daughter that I wish had been around when I was six.
Homeschool parents should make sure to impress on their children the importance of discussing homeschooling with potential spouses. For my husband and me, it was one of the things that brought us together, but I can imagine it’s a point of stress for other couples.
My son has over 50 knives, a shotgun and a crossbow. They are within 30 feet of him every day at school. We’ve never felt the need to suspend him. :)
My daughter just made a ‘wombat launcher’ out of lego. I am not sure if that would’ve gotten her suspended or not.
Great Chart!
Homeschoolers average in the 87th percentile.
means
Homeschoolers score better on tests than 87% of all others taking the test.
I’m a 2nd-gen homeschooler, too, and you’re right—the number of options is incredible! My wife is relatively new to it, still, but she’s like a kid in a candy store as she chooses individualized tools for our kids for each subject.
This is "pointing":
This will get you kicked out of public school:
See the difference?
So obviously they have problems with social skills..........
You have every reason to brag, you and your wife earned it. Your children are the beneficiaries.
My hope for this country lies with your children and mine and others like us.
May God bring a great revival to our land, may the hearts of men be turned back to Him.
Yeah. Social skills are probably one of their greatest strengths - and maturity. Always noted as unique in their maturity before anything else.....was their most frequent compliment growing up.
/S shame they didn’t grow up with peer pressure as the dominant force in their lives..... /s
Really agree with your last sentence......
Wow. Well done.
Note that college educated parents (both) scored higher than parents with teaching certs. The certs only scored 87th, while the other scored 90th.
The certs only scored 87th
“only”, eh? :)
Only.
All the grace of God, not us. He gets the credit.
We failed as parents in so many ways. The kids aren’t perfect, and several had to go their own way for a few years to later come full circle. Told my wife that with 8 kids, some were bound to have to be rebels. Actually 3 were.
One son and one daughter let me have it verbally when they were 16, and I thought they were goners - tats & drinking - but they grew up and have come full circle, love the Lord. We are very thankful for each of them.
3 hated being home-schooled - but all now as adults are incredibly thankful and grateful and planning the same. The 3 are very glad they couldn’t leave their HS setting when they had poor judgment and were immature.
Again - it’s all the grace of God. No parent can do “everything right” and it’s foolish to think you can. You need to be on your knees crying out to God for Him to catch their hearts - in spite of all your failures as a parent. It is His mercy and grace.
I am good friends with the pastor of a great SBC church in the area. About 10 years ago, a famous SBC pastor spoke there, and said publicly, “Our son has left the Lord and gone into the world and sin. We cannot understand why, because we did everything right in raising him.” I could not believe any man could say this, let alone think it. Jesus told us we must say, “I am an unprofitable servant, an unworthy slave...” in Luke 17:10. What man or woman can stand before God and say, “I have done all I was commanded...”??????
It is God’s mercy, and grace.
Home schooling parents vow to fight Sandy Hook commission recommendations

I would prefer a different presentation of the percentile chart. The gloss over the average statistic when comparing homeschoolers to percentiles" of P.S. students.
Granted that there may be a shortage of data to break out the detail Im curious about for College-degreed and non-degreed parents and other things they control for, I dont get the impression that they are comparing homeschooling children of college-educated parents to PS-educated children of college-educated parents, for example. And that is actually what is significant to parents who of course either are or are not college educated, and know it, at the time they decide to or not to homeschool.
But I guess thats a problem with any statistic along those lines. The people who homeschool are a self-selected group. Some tried it, and didnt like it or found they couldnt do it. The only true statistic would come from parents who flipped a coin to decide whether to homeschool or not. And that aint happening, at least not very much.
But I guess that the thing that would be most interesting would be to graph out the entire distribution for homeschooler children of college-educated parents and superimpose it on the entire distribution for PS educated children of college-educated parents. The trouble with comparing to all PS children is that so many of them, and even of their parents, are indifferent to education. Thats a bad comparison, since none of homeschool parents are that way.
which one is the “assault finger”?
Must be the thumb...
The position of the thumb determines whether you’re expelled or not.
