Republicans, fresh from landslide victories in congressional, state, and local elections, were well-positioned to flex their newfound muscle by re-establishing constitutional checks and balances on an overzealous executive branch. Instead, Senate Majority Leader McConnell folded like a cheap suit, abandoning efforts to defund President Obamas amnesty efforts. Tell me again why we need Republican majorities in Congress.
Why cant Senator McConnell trigger the same nuclear option now? What about Obamacare? It remains alive and well despite Republican promises to repeal and replace. The latest excuse from Republican leadership is that they need the White House before they can accomplish anything. Really? What the Republicans need is backbone and leadership. Ronald Reagan ushered in hugely effective income tax cuts while working with a Democrat Congress.
Margaret Thatcher told us, Consensus is the absence of leadership. If the Republican leadership is waiting for consensus with the Democrats, that will never happen. Rather, they should be making their case, standing by their principles and promises, and fulfilling the mandate they were given last November. Republican voters dont expect victory with each issue, but they do expect a principled stand and a fight, not a concession at the end of the first quarter. Let the president wield his veto pen. Congress has given him next to nothing to veto.
Giving in to Democrat opposition, as they have done with amnesty, debt ceilings, continuing spending resolutions, and other line in the sand issues leaves voters to scratch their heads, wondering whats different having Congress under Republican control.
If Republican voters believe, to borrow from Mrs. Clinton, What difference does it make?, they will stay home again in 2016. The Republican Congress, as evidenced by the amnesty capitulation, is doing little to help.

Remember Iran-Contra, where Reagan sold weapons to Iran to fund the contra effort against the Sandinistas? Remember James Watt, whom Reagan appointed to prevent the EPA from carrying out its mandate? The Democrats were equally furious about what they saw as executive usurpation of Congressional authority. And yet the first time anyone's ever heard of a government shutdown via congressional gridlock was under the GOP.
How many Republicans were in Congress when Obamacare was passed?
Would you like to see what 300 democrats in the House would do?
How many Republicans were in Congress when amnesty was funded? Which do you think is going to have the longest lasting negative effect on this country?
A heavily democrat Congress would have also “funded amnesty” and then done dozens of other horrible things.
The worst pieces of legislation in history were passed in the 30’s when Republicans were at their lowest point. And the democrats of today make **cksu**ers like FDR look like patriots in comparison.
You are whistling past the graveyard if you believe the liberal Republican party is going to change or allow any change in direction other than left, it’s not happening.
The question is when or if a chunk of the conservatives in the Republican party stand up and say we are done and openly revolt and meet to institute a new party. There isn’t time without damage to the country but as we have seen this week even with Republicans “in control” the damage continues at a quickening pace.
Frankly the only way I see this lurch to communism ending is for an American Cromwell.
From the votes total yesterday on amnesty it would seem we do have 300 or so democrats in the house...
But if you like the kicks in the sack time and time again by the wonderful Republicans that is your prerogative, enjoy.
The point is, letting the democrats win makes things worse, that’s a fact.
I think this aptly characterizes the Kool-Aid-drinking conservatives who keep voting for a party that spits in their face.
Which party do you think conservatives should be voting for?
I think conservatives should be voting for conservative candidates regardless of party.
Who would that have been in 2012?
No responses from either.
I'm through condoning tyranny.
Our once republic is in a bad place and it will only get worse.
The cure to America's sickness will not be found via political parties.
I think we’re toast as a “republic”.
Banana Republic perhaps if we’re lucky.

We hear at every election, “Vote for ME, I’ll fight for....yada, yada, yada........”.
The ONLY, repeat ONLY reason those bastards want to get voted in is to collect their highly inflated gubmint “welfare” checks. They don’t give a tinkers damn about you or me, nor the millions like us who voted them in. They are nothing more than over paid “gimmedats” wearing suits. They NEED TO BE REPLACED. It looks like its getting close for that revolution to start we’ve been hearing about, pray that it doesn’t come to that.
And mine is a dung beetle in the backyard who promised to the get things fixed in my grandchildren's lifetime.
Too bad they have stopped the punishment of being drawn and quatered for traitors. That punishment was designed for evil traitors like Boehner and McConnell.
Did you ever get that link? Thanks!!!
