This is an excellent movie with a very young Angela Lansbury in it.

My son had to read this book in freshman English this year. He said it was “gay.”

The scene with the picture in full color was jarring!

This particular version is the gold standard. Hatfield played Dorian to a ‘t’. I agree that seeing the portrait, as envisioned in the writings of Wilde, is a true Kodak moment.

The scene with the picture in full color was jarring! It has been a while since I saw this movie, but isn't including that scene as a clip something of a spoiler?

Hurd Hatfield was an appropriately creepy-looking actor for the part.

dear homer,
yes, that woulld be THE spoiler, since it is a momment of ‘some kind or other of some weird redemption thing or something’, I guess!!
Without seeing all the cinematic storyline prior to that point, it won’t make too much sense. The only other way to know where that is going is to .....
(gasp)
read the book!

George Sanders completely stole the movie from under Hatfield with little bits of stage business. Hatfield, who was MGM’s pretty boy of the time, had no idea he was being out-acted by a seasoned veteran of the English stage.
