The Toys R Us store in Ferguson, which was burglarized during last years unrest, will close at the end of March, the company confirmed Tuesday.
The store, open since 1989, will close to prepare for the sale of the property, said company spokeswoman Alyssa Peera.
The store was not meeting the needs of the business, Peera said. That is separate from the events that took place, she added, referring to the protests and looting.
We have enjoyed serving the Ferguson community for many years. At this time, we do not have any plans for a new store in the Ferguson area, she said.
The store is at 10895 West Florissant Avenue, near Interstate 270. Peera noted other Toys R Us stores, including locations in Chesterfield and Sunset Hills, remain in the St. Louis area.
The 46,000-square-foot Ferguson store employs 36 people. The company said it will place as many as possible at its other stores.

That scene was awesome.(WoF)
This is so racist.
Business insurance rates probably have skyrocketed in that area, due to the rioting. [They can thank the Community Organizer and his cohorts.]
Likely, city taxes will also skyrocket, as more police will probably need to be hired. [They can thank the Community Organizer and his cohorts.]
How to create a ghost town.
Better not let Al hear about that.
Plainfield, New Jersey, is still a blighted community because of riots that happened almost fifty years ago.
Once a notorious riot happens in a community, it takes a long long time for them to bounce back. It makes no sense to run a toy store in a community that is going to be a basket case for the next half-century, at least.
May have been a big nudge..........
Man, who dat be givin’ us dem toys den? How we as peeple gonna have fun wit’ our shawties?
Revrunt Sharpton will probably TRY to go after them anyway...for DENYING the OPPRESSED Easy Access to Vital TOYS!
If a 46,000 sqft store only has 36 employees, it would have been slated for eventual closure. That is one slow store.
We "B" Gone!

Howz youz be all knowin’ ‘dat!!? You be axin’ ‘da fat White Boy wid all ‘de toyz or whud?
If I remember this correctly, there was a Don's and Ben's Guns and Liquor Chain in San Antonio, about 25 years ago. According to an internet search, they are still there, but no mention of guns anymore. But my search did turn up Double Shot Liquor & Guns, 304 Kessler Ave, Schulenburg, TX 78956. Maybe they would consider opening a branch in Ferguson.
The business district of Watts, Calif., along 103rd Street, never recovered after the riot whose fiftieth anniversary we will be commemorating in a few months.
Nah, that's because its Jersey
The whole point is to kill capitalism.
I just assumed that was the final total after the riots, and there were more employees before that.
She sure did have to say it - imagine what would happen if she said they were getting the heck out of there, as the thugs have ruined the community and business will not bounce back.
At least if she told the truth the “community” would have helped clear whatever is left on the shelves.
I’ve heard some areas of Detroit never recovered after the 1967 riots there.
And I know of some parts of the Washington DC riot zone, which took decades to become redeveloped after the ‘68 riots following the killing of Martin Luther King.
This is not shocking news about Ferguson.
It will be interesting to see what else happens in the future there. Up until now, Ferguson was about 2/3 black and about 1/3 white. Some white liberals actually had thought Ferguson was a model of a diverse community, before all of the troubles.
I would imagine that most if not all of the 1/3 white residents are planning to leave. And the good decent black residents, are also moving out. In less than 5 years, Ferguson will be 99% black, and they will be ghetto black, as opposed to any decent working, law abiding residents.
