Robert A. McDonald, the secretary of the Veterans Affairs Department, apologized on Monday for falsely claiming last month that he had served in the United States Special Forces.
Mr. McDonald, a 1975 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, served in the Armys 82nd Airborne Division, where he completed jungle, arctic, desert warfare and Ranger training, according to his official biography.
But his assertion to a homeless veteran in Los Angeles that he was in Special Forces captured on camera for a CBS News report was false, he acknowledged on Monday. His initial claim was first reported by The Huffington Post.

He should not be offered the option to resign. He should be fired.
This stretching the truth is becoming too common place in all branches of government, the military, the media, on and on and on. What ever happened to “Truth or Consequences?”
Well Custer did carve a good record at Gettysburg even if he was not at Little Round Top. The Stuart and Hampton vs. Custer engagements were quite fierce even for the more honest journalists of that time.
I am not American, and do not understand what constitutes Special Forces. I had thought that Army Rangers were Special Forces, but apparently they are not. Is Special Forces an inclusive term, or a designation unto itself?
Truth has fallen in the Streets
Yes he should but lying is expected from Obamoids.
Completing Ranger training is not the same as being assigned to a Ranger unit.
OK, noted, but are Rangers also called Special Forces?
Better question - whatever happened to Honour and integrity
Many bars in the US.. have at least one that says he was member of the Seals.. but couldn’t win a merit badge from the Boy Scouts..
I believe Rangers are part of SOCOM (Special Operations Command). Special Forces guys wear different hats than the Rangers wear.
Going through Ranger training is something to be proud of and you have earned the right to wear a Ranger "tab". But completing Ranger training does not make you a Ranger.
Serving in one of the Ranger Battalions makes you a Ranger.
Not going on to serve in a Ranger Battalion does not mean that you washed out, it just means that either there was not a slot for you or that you had other career ambitions.
Haven't you heard the expression "my truth"? At one time, there was "the truth", now it's "my truth".

Oh come on now! Lying is a sin right ? have you forgotten members of the democrat (in name only) party threw any references to God out at their 2012 convention ? Lying is OK ! With God they also threw out HIS 10 Commandments therefore to them there’s no such thing as sin.
Do I actually need to put this /s in ?
Just a resume enhancement....he had enough, why try for more not earned?
Special Forces are the Armys Green Berets. Special Operations include several different organizations from all services but our news media, being ignorant of military matters often use the term Special Forces for all special operators.
