Alzheimer's breakthrough....

Scientists have discovered the key to stopping Alzheimer’s disease in its earliest stages.

The breakthrough paves the way for a ‘statin-like’ drug that could be taken by millions to prevent dementia.

Cambridge University researchers have found a naturally occurring molecule that can slow the formation of plaques in the brain.

Amyloid plaques are closely associated with declining memory and other Alzheimer’s symptoms.

The discovery raises the prospect of a treatment which could be routinely taken in middle age to stop dementia. It could even result in a pill that could be used to treat dementia in the same way that statins are used to prevent heart disease today.

Lead author Dr Samuel Cohen told the Daily Mail last night: ‘This is the starting point for finding a drug that stops Alzheimer’s disease in its tracks. It might be used when the first symptoms appear. But another potential approach is that people would take it as a preventative drug.’

One of them is a disease of the brain that causes you to forget all the things that truly matter in life ... oh, wait, BOTH of them are diseases of the brain that cause you to forget all the things that truly matter ...

"It could even result in a pill that could be used to treat dementia" -- but the patients keep forgetting to take the pill.

How do you tell the difference between Alzheimer’s and Democrat?

Alzheimer's ends at the moment of death, Democrat lasts forever.

Initial findings are usually only 25% replicable. I was just reading this morning about Cholesterol...

“These are statin side-effects,” he concludes. “However, a lot of the doctors and patients think they’re ‘getting older.’ They’re not getting older; these are statin side effects.”

Patients over 70 years old are especially vulnerable, he said.

“They can’t remember names. They can’t remember where they put their glasses or keys. They forget sometimes who they are! It can actually bring on the onset of Alzheimer’s disease by 15 years. So you have to be cautious with statins,” Sinatra advised.”

Inflammation could very well be the key. I have rheumatoid arthritis which has a correlation to alzheimer’s (my grandmother had both). RA is an autoimmune disease which causes inflammation. Cooking your own food from scratch, cutting out lots of carbs, and reducing stress (mine is stress related) are all important. Mine kicked into high gear when my kid went to afghanistan. Holistic is the way to go.

Statins are the biggest fraud in medicine. They reduce cholesterol, but do NOTHING to reduce death from heart disease.

Statins only work for the drug countries. Read, "The Great Cholesterol Myth"

“I’ve always wondered. How do you tell the difference between Alzheimer’s and Democrat?”

Democrats tend to mainly become forgetful of the Constitution.

Alzheimer's sufferers are generally not a threat to others.

An Alzheimer’s patient will stop voting when dead.

Excellent advise. Pharmaceutical drugs and drug compNies are literally killing people. Statins have many serious side effects and have not proved effective in reducing CAD.

Lecithin prevents Alzheimers.

People at risk (hereditary) should take it every day beginning at age 40.

i heard that. I heard, "...just to get a better number...."

however, statins do other things that are "good," and i don't recall anything "bad."

Besides, if it works on Alz then it's worth ANY minor downside

Statins do nothing 'good'

Read "The Great Cholesterol Myth"

Cholesterol is a very important biologic substance and is essential to life.

The problem is that some dementia is actually just plain crazy. My wife is staying with her aunt who has dementia. But the dementia is more like OCD and just plain irrational behavior. She can explain what she wants but not why she wants it.
Yesterday she took apart all of the flashlights because of the snowstorm.
Today she wanted her rugs back but the doctor prohibited rugs after she broke her hip. She cannot properly explain why she wants the rugs back.
I think it is more a product of small strokes and being reclusive. She lives in her own world that should never change.

no, no, no-—statins do exotic things that are good but that you apparently never heard about :)
