Information technology workers at Southern California Edison (SCE) are being laid off and replaced by workers from India. Some employees are training their H-1B visa holding replacements, and many have already lost their jobs.
.
.
The H-1B program "was supposed to be for projects and jobs that American workers could not fill," this worker said. "But we're doing our job. It's not like they are bringing in these guys for new positions that nobody can fill.
"Not one of these jobs being filled by India was a job that an Edison employee wasn't already performing," he said.
.
.
SCE employees said that since August, when the layoffs began, the composition of the IT workplace began to change. "I see a lot of Indian people walking the halls, and less Americans," said a third IT worker interviewed.

"Whereas it is necessary for that support of government, for the discharge of the debts of the United States, and the encouragement and protection of manufactures, that duties be laid on goods, wares and merchandise:"[1]
The founders would know what to do.
Jobs are going overseas too, not just the domestic job loss to Visas.
Parties to thank include the Federal Reserve leaches, and deficit building leach enabler politicians, as well as Government regulation overhead cost of doing business in the USA. Outsourced work to India, etc. isn't done with the costly controls American companies are mandated to follow.
Wow - the liberals in Southern California are losing their jobs because of an open border?
They do realize that complaining about it is racist right?
But of course it will do no such thing.
Management prefers H1-B staff because they are obedient, docile, and cheap - in just about that order of importance.
Mere competence on the job does not enter in to the consideration, and "cost savings" from cheaper salaries often get washed away quickly by poor quality work and expanded headcounts. Managers do not really care. What they want is the ego satisfaction of owning indentured servants who will jump through hoops on command.
Executives can ride a company all the way down to zero with that business model, whining for Government bail-outs all the way. And they do.
It is Government policy which makes all of this possible.
So what makes you think their cost savings will be passed on to you through lower rates?

Right. The cost of jet fuel has been lower for many months, but I haven’t noticed the airlines lowering the price of tickets.
Do you remember the young men at McDonald commercials in the 1960s? McDonald’s policy at the time was to hire young (American) male college students. They did not hire women.
The foreign labor business was just fine with politicos, when it only worked against men in manufacturing and building trades during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Since then, with added gatekeeping from feminist university administrators, instructors and alumni, tech. programs in universities have been packed with richer students from other countries.
Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
India is the wild west of software development, they don't have the regulatory overhead and process controls mandated upon them like here in the USA. Throw a project over the wall to them to skirt overhead costs here. It wasn't this way 15 years ago.
As a matter of fact before I went to McD I ran Lindy's Cafe at Knott's right across from the brand new Corkscrew roller coaster in the brand new Roaring 20's section and all my kids there were of the untanned persuasion too! I am getting friggin old, took my grandson to Knott's two years ago and very little of what I remember is left.
all of the big corps pay protection money to the Mafia
It isn't like that where I work. I haven't seen a manager like that at all. The big decisions (like moving AP to India) come from way high up and I bet they'd end up sorry if they had to deal with the inefficiencies of this.
I wait a few seconds in case they didn’t notice me and I then I will say excuse me and if nothing happens—I scoot their cart over.
The real question is who the hell will be able to afford electricity. Americans will be paid the prevailing wage the rest of the world gets paid for the same work. You will see South American carboard slums soon. Detroit is coming to a city near you. Get ready.
For years now, I have been baffled by this docile acceptance of aiding in your own professional execution.
If I were hired for a certain position, and later was asked to train my own replacement, I would refuse, for the record, citing the rational explanation that that was not the job description for which I applied and for which I was hired.
Training new employees is a distinctly separate job description.
I do this job for X$ an hour. I do training for 50X$ an hour.
The outcome would certainly be interesting!
Bump for later
I haven't been there since the early 1970s. Is the Calico Ghost Town still there?
Good! They are beginning to reap the seeds they sowed in 2008and 2012. Let them get a taste of what they inflicted on everyone else. And may the harvest will be bountiful and bitter.
He will need all the love he can find, soon, when he is looking for a real job after he crashes and burns...
