The Reids are basically a family of criminals. Harry evidently did not live up to his end of some illegal deal and got the crap beat out of him.
If anyone believes Harry was repeatedly punched in his face by an exercise machine, I have a bridge to sell.
His brother carries a gun because he is wrapped up in the same illegal endeavors and does not want to get the crap beat out of him or worse. Being wasted in the middle of the day is indicative of the type of family the Reids are.
