Liking the cut of this guy’s jib more and more:
His speech at the Iowa Freedom Summit earned rave reviews, and was followed with what appears to be the first pro-Walker presidential ad. And everyone seems to have noticed what Walkers opponents in Wisconsin have learned the hard way, repeatedly: hes a formidable politician. This should worry his GOP rivals not only because of Walkers win streak, but also because Walker is doing something many of them arent: hes setting the terms of the debate instead of following the terms the Democrats have set.
Part of the medias terrible coverage of national politics is the reliance on the personal: it matters to them who is saying it more than what is said. Romney got tagged as uncaring because hes rich. But the classic conservative policies dont reek of plutocracy when coming from the new crop of Republican stars, many of whom came from modest beginnings or are the children of immigrants, or both. Walker doesnt even have a college degree, which itself is incomprehensible to modern Democrats, who are elitist and credentialist and genuinely dont know what life is like in much of the country.
And neither does the media. Which is how someone like Walker could be so successful and still blindside the national press, who would struggle to find Wisconsin on a map. And its why Walker is a threat to other high-profile Republicans who have accepted the Democratic/media framing of the issues in order to make a national pitch. Only one of them can be right.
In other words, Walker is already doing was some of us have long advocated: don’t debate on the Democrat/Media Complex’s terms, set your own damn terms and force them to their knees. The Left is not used to being mocked and ignored: their media wing stamp their tiny feet and shout that attention must be paid to their trivial demands. But who cares what they think? In the Atlantic, lefty Peter Beinart is starting to get worried:
Walkers rise illustrates the pitfalls of media coverage of the GOP race. Not many national reporters live within the conservative media ecosystem. They therefore largely assume that in order to win over the non-white, female, millennial and working class voters who rejected John McCain and Mitt Romney, Republican presidential candidates must break from conservative orthodoxy, if not substantively, then at least rhetorically…
Walkers rise is a reminder that among Republican primary voters, and especially Iowa-caucus goers, the market for ideological or even stylistic innovation, may be smaller than the media assumes. Because the most striking thing about Scott Walkers speech at the Freedom Summit, and his emerging campaign message more generally, is how retro it is. Walker concedes nothing to the conventional wisdom about what the GOP must do to compete in a more culturally tolerant, ethnically diverse and economically insecure America. And the GOP faithful love it.
Walkers… message is simple and old-fashioned: Take control from the federal government and big-government special interests and give it back to hard-working taxpayers.
The key point here is: don’t buy into the premise of the question. Marxist Democrats (they’re out and proud now, so might as well call them what they are), abetted by their college boy, red-diaper-baby media cronies can only frame their narrative one way. (It infuriates them that Walker doesn’t have a college degree.) But Walker is a throwback to belief in the American Way — the notion that we are, indeed, E pluribus unum, not a collection of dialectically materialist grievance groups. But if the GOP wants to win, they’re going to have to ignore the boilerplate from the national disgrace that is our MSM and just plow through to victory.
” Cruz is the ONLY one opposing amnesty for ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS.”

Conservative Republicans should understand that, when they look across the aisle, they do not see the “loyal opposition” but he political ENEMY.
Why waste a perfectly good f*rt?
A fair assessment, I think, is that JFK started out as a poor president and was evolving into an above average president at the time of his assassination.
He didn't understand the danger of Castro, but he did understand the value of tax cuts. On the average, he was a mediocre president on par with Harry Truman which made them the best Democrat presidents of the 20th century.
If forced to choose between JFK and Truman, I'd pick JFK since throwing Cuba to the Communists was far less serious than throwing China to the Communists.
No Repub is more battle-tested and provably accomplished than Walker is right now. He has a great record in Wisconsin, is proud of it, and actually relishes doing battle with the left. The man has no fear, and that is a rare commodity in the GOP.
I’ll take Cruz over Walker. But either would be good for our country.
The Civil War was a done deal with the three/fifths compromise and the cotton gin.
If Walker wins the primaries (as well as before), efforts should be made to make him "see the light," to persuade him to admit how destructive amnesty is. Wasn't Reagan's amnesty have been an "one time deal"? Amnesty will only encourage more and more undesirable illegals to enter the US. It is an effective way to destroy this country.
Not for the top spot on the ticket. In some limited cases, e.g., Ted Cruz for VP, an exception could be made.
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln how did you like the play?
And by “enemy”, they need to understand that their
“loyal opposition”
SEEKS TO EXTERMINATE THEM
and their supporters.
And by “exterminate”, I DO mean political genocide.
I totally agree. The Senate is nothing more than a clubby, House of Lords environment where standing your ground is seen as gauche. Most of Ted Cruz' contemporaries -- dem or GOP -- would love nothing more than to bounce him out of their comfy little outfit.
Amnesty is THE guaranteed way for leftists and elites to accomplish their ultimate goal and impose socialism/communism on our country.
exactly. shove every false premise down their throat until you get a true one. never answer anything based on a false premise. every false leftist premise should be treated as an “opportunity” to expound on why it is false.
but to do that you have to be fearless, not feckless like the average GOPe guy.
of those talking about running, walker, cruz, sessions, pence, and yes sarah. my short list. walker has been on that list the longest.
Great article here about Walker and some of the other new GOP aspirants.

People like Walker because he is a man of action and not one who pays lip service to conservative ideals while pushing for more big government, nanny state programs.
I certainly hope so, that's what I'd have said. Walker's my guy at this point, though we need to pin him down on amnesty and common core.
Walker or Cruz + John Bolton
-—Abraham Lincoln would not have been President if we insisted on following this rule.-—
Lincoln was never a US Senator.
