Dear Skeptics, Here's How Apple Will Continue To Demolish Expectations

Apple delivered the greatest earnings report in history on Tuesday.

That's not hyperbole. Apple earned $18 billion in net income over the three-month period of October to December 2014. That's more than any other company has ever earned over a three-month span.

Apple earned those mind-melting profits thanks mostly to the iPhone, which is an incredible business.

Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones, up 46% from the year prior. The iPhone generated $51 billion in revenue, giving each iPhone an average selling price of $687.

You really think people here are too dumb to understand that the phone company is adding enough to the contract price to cover the $687 they paid for that phone?

And you think people are too dumb to realize that no matter WHAT phone they get, they will be paying for it somehow? it matters not whether it;s a Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, Nokia, or Apple. Someone has to pay the freight. If you pay $199 for a flagship phone, why not get the best? Why not get one that will have a large resale value two years from now when it's time to trade up? Right now, the ONLY cell phones that have any value in two years are Apple iPhones. . . and they generally have MORE trade in or resale value than the $199 or $299 you may have paid to initiate the contract renewal! That simply does not happen with two year old Android junk. No one wants them. TANSTAAFL

I know of someone who got a smartphone free, 99¢ a month for service ... but unfortunately it was a piece of junk from Samsung ... LOL ...

It was a relative, and she got it at one of those roadside tents that said “free phones” ... :-) ...

They could set up a tent that said they were going to pay me $50 a month for what she got, and I still would not get that trash from Samsung.

“Apple’s stock has increased by more than 215% since Steve Jobs died.”

Cook is living off Job’s genius. Understand that I’m not anti-Apple. (My first computer was an Apple II C +) My contention is that when Jobs died, Apple started living on borrowed time. And I will be betting against Apple when the time is right. I’ve seen nothing from that PC moron Cook that makes me comfortable owning Apple stock.

Cheers

I'm not getting an answer to the one question I asked. Why do you expect me to answer that laundry list of yours?

I understand the business model of no money out-of-pocket ... and it’s definitely worth it for people who don’t want to take money out of their pocket to get it. And that includes large majority of consumers.

You might as well be a professor in a classroom at college talking about the theory of how a nuclear bomb works, for all these consumers care. What they know is ... very simply ... “I don’t have to take several hundred dollars out of my pocket right now!” THAT is what counts!

But I’m glad to see you come out, honestly at least, in favor of faggotry and anti-Christian bigotry.

And THAT is not at all what I am doing. . . and that is an idiotic thing to say. You sir, are illogical. A is not equal to C. You need to take a course in logic.

As to undermining the Second Amendment, I’m not clear how you or anybody else would know how Cocky Cook spends his private dollars. Do you speak to him often?

I see. . . Cook was paid $9 million out of the BILLIONS that Apple made last year and the BILLIONS they distributed to all of their stock holders. . . and you are worried about what someone does with their private money? I couldn't give a rap what someone does with their private money. It's his to do what he wants with. That's what we DO in this country. Cook's stock options don't vest until 2016. . . and that's what some people are talking about when they claim his total compensation from last year was equal to $345 million. . . that's the amount his options STOCK WENT UP that he cannot do anything with until it vests on August 25, of 2016! It could just as easily GO DOWN before then and be back to the issue price and all $345 million might be GONE.

You are just as bad as the Liberals who attack and harass the people who donated TO the NO on proposition 8 with the intent to shut them up. You don't want to win on ideas. . . you want to shut them up. . . and to muzzle the market place of ideas. Free Speech? Only for "FightinWhitey!" but not for anyone ELSE!! Just because those evil people do that, does not mean we have to lower ourselves to the same vile level.

I'm not them. I don't want to be them. And I'm not talking to them, I'm talking to you.

Sorry it just makes me giggle every time I see people bragging about buying iGadgets for 600 plus bucks.

So, Mad Dawgg, how much did you pay for your cellular phone? Are you on a cellular service plan?

I didn’t make Apple successful ... I’m talking about the mass of consumers who did make Apple successful.

AND ... to make it more clear why I’m talking about this “mass of consumers” ... it’s because you can’t have these kinds of CRAZY-WILD PROFITS, quarter after quarter unless Apple is doing things RIGHT for this mass of consumers.

I’m talking about “THEM”!

The more we talk about this, the more counter-intuitive that 1984 Superbowl commercial seems to be.

All right ... so Apple has become “the man” ... huh?

I’ve seen the whole process fro 1984 ... forward to now ... and for a while it was “Apple is going to fail any day!” ... to now ... “Apple is the man, and I hate the man!”

Basically it doesn’t matter what Apple does ... those same people have hated and are going to hate Apple no matter what happens or what it is.

It really is a curious phenomenon.

Ahh but you see I didn't get a flip phone I got a smart phone. And it does all the fun stuff that other smart phones do. Awesome HD camera both Video and still shots. Cool apps and has built in kindle function. Even has the firefly function that automatically pulls up a list of pages of any item that you scan the barcode on. So if you are in a store and see an item you like just scan the barcode and the firephone gives you whole list of price comparisons including ebay and amazon etc.

Also can scan phone numbers and IP addresses on signs and books etc. and will dial the number or pull up the site. without the need for those QR code boxes.

You can take these awesome mutli-faceted photos called lenticular photos that animates them and when you tilt the fire phone and they show a nifty moveable 3D picture.

AND you get the Amazon cloud with it of course and when you purchase physical media from Amazon they will give you the digital version free on qualifying purchases and it doesn't count against your Amazon Cloud storage limit even if you buy an old fashioned LP Record from Amazon you can get the digital copies free.

But of course the firephone isn't hipster approved and its far less expensive than iGadgets.

Now, you got to label some people "haters".

Your day is complete.

I answered that one in a previous thread.

here is is again:

"I see. I got a brand new fire phone with a one year contract for 99 cents. In fact I got two of them. Our plan has 4 phones, two fire phones 1 track phone and a high end blackberry that my wife uses for work Her work place gave her the phone and gives her a per diem to pay for her part of our plan. Our plan totals 130 bucks a month we have data and unlimited calling and texting. And the data we hardly ever come close to using our limit in fact we just were informed that our unused data is being rolled over. Now add to that I got Amazon Prime free in the deal. Plus 5000 points to buy apps that I still have not used. (1 point is roughly equal to a penny) Consider all that I got in the deal I am sure you will agree my fire phones were anything but expensive.

The other choices I had with the same company and plans was a minimum two year contract plus almost 300 bucks down for an android phone and all the way up to 900 bucks and a two year plan for the high end iPhone BTW all of those plans had an additional monthly surcharge ranging from 5 bucks for the android to 25 bucks for the highest priced iPhone. Why anyone would choose to pay all that extra money is beyond me but hipsters gotta be hip I guess."

Ummm ... if you’re talking about this ...

— — —

Amazon’s debut phone isn’t bad, per se, but there’s little incentive for anyone to switch carriers or platforms to buy it. Its unique features don’t provide enough utility, and come at the expense of both battery life and performance.

Regardless of the bells and whistles on offer here, Amazon is walking down a difficult path: The Fire is only available on AT&T, and at $200 on-contract ($650 full retail), it’s going up against high-end devices from companies that have been making phones for years. In order to win over customers, Amazon has to convince them that the Fire is worth dropping loyalties, switching carriers, resigning contracts and handing over a lot of money. Unfortunately, the company has a few lessons to learn before that’s going to happen.
