It would not surprise me if, at the next Republican National Convention, Benjamin Netanyahu took a seat in the delegates-from-abroad section. The Israeli leader has both allied and associated himself with congressional Republicans who differ with President Obama over whether to impose additional sanctions on Iran and who also lets not beat around the bush hate his guts. Their foreign policy is actually a domestic one: to destroy the president.
Whether this is political or personal or a combination of the two is beside the point. Whatever the case, when Netanyahu accepted John Boehners invitation to address a joint session of Congress in March, he did so without informing the White House. Boehner, too, bypassed the White House. As a result, Netanyahu will come and go and not meet with the president. *** But what concerns me most is how Netanyahu threatens to harm the bipartisan understanding and support of Israel. The prime minister has never been able to hide his disdain for Obama. In May 2011, he made Obama squirm before the TV cameras as he lectured him about Middle East matters in the Oval Office. It was, simply, no way to treat the president of the United States.
*** My feelings, however, are immaterial. What matters above all is the possibility that support of Israel will become a partisan political issue in the United States. It may come as a surprise, but Zionism was once beloved by the American and European left. (The British Labour Party even supported transferring Palestinians out of what is now Israel a policy that changed once Labour got to govern.) Now, though, the European left has abandoned Israel, adoring the Palestinian cause with a striking naivete.

A younger R. Cohen (last week)
Yeah, I'd say that contempt is justified considering...
Obama campaign team working to defeat Netanyahu in Israeli election (On the ground IN Israel!)
On the other hand, Barry has plenty of time on his hands.
LOL this guy really struck a cord! almost 5000 comments at the source. No way I’m going to read them all but I was hoping to note the date of the visit.
This is a salient point, but not the way Mr. Cohen thinks. All the political leftist leaders of previous decades did not engender in their opponents the visceral hatred that occurs now. Conservatives disagreed with McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, (Bill) Clinton, Daschle, Graham, among others. The right may have thought of them as ill-advised, wrong, unintelligent, even stupid and/or silly, but the hatred, if any, was for their policies, not their persons.
The same cannot be said of the present quintumvirate of Hillary!, Kerry, Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. They combine their ill-advised policies with an arrogance and disdain that evokes the very hatred of them that Mr. Cohen thinks comes from the conservatives' inner desire to hate their opponents. The proof of this is in how they are received and treated abroad. Bibi happens to be perhaps the most obvious, but that is because he is on the receiving end of disdain as well.
Ha. Obama despises Israel. The sooner this fake journalist understands the truth, the better.
Apparently, everyone from the King of Saudi to the President of Israel thinks Obama is an asshole.
So much for “regaining the respect for America” or whatever claptrap the MSM says.
MIT grads are worshiped by the media.....unless they are named Netanyahu.
Richard, Richard, Richard ....
Wah! He didn't kiss Pharoah's arse. Wah!
Bibi knows Obama’s secrets!
The progressive thought process is irrelevant to reality. It is not based in reality. It has no relationship to reality. It is not worthy of any serious consideration. In fact, it cannot be serously considered because it is not serious.
Mr. Cohen’s take on the Bibi/Obama relationship is precisely to the point. He has warped reality into a ridiculous cartoon. Bibi has never belittled Obama, much as he has deserved it. He has, however, been insulted and treated with contmpt by Obama. It is long past time for the president and his sickinfants to start receiving what hey have been giving out. Karma aka God’s judgement will come down like thunder. Stand clear.
FU Dick Cohen.
You are a disgrace to the Republic, to America and the Republican party.
Crawl back to “K” street, you worm.
he holds all muslims with an equal amounts of scorn and contempt
and I don’t blame him
Uh, just to set the record straight: Bibi schooled 0bama after the latter said that Israel's borders should return to their pre-1967 locations, something that shows 0's ignorance and is untenable for Israel.
Who better to give it and what better place to give it in than Bibi giving Obama the spanking he so richly deserved in the Oval Office.
He could hurt him if the American Jews finally realize that Obama hates Jews as much as other Muslims do. However, the Jewish love affair with socialism will prevent such a realization.
Did the White House press office write this for you Richie?
