Alabama's first openly gay state lawmaker threatened to "out" fellow elected officials engaged in extramarital affairs, especially those that champion family values and traditional marriage.
State Rep. Patricia Todd's (D-Birmingham) ire came to a boil after several state officials reacted negatively to a recent federal ruling that declared Alabama's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.
Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard called the ruling "outrageous" and said that the will of 80% of Alabama citizens who voted in 2006 to define marriage as between a man and a woman has been overturned by the act of "a single unelected and unaccountable federal judge." He added, "The Legislature will encourage a vigorous appeals process, and we will continue defending the Christian conservative values that make Alabama a special place to live."
Leading that appeal is State Attorney General Luther Strange, who has filed for a stay of the judges' orders.
In an emotional response, Todd lashed out on Facebook:
This (is) a time where you find out who are accepting, loving people. To say I am disappointed in Speaker Hubbard comment's [sic] and Attorney General Strange [sic] choice to appeal the decision is an understatement. I will not stand by and allow legislators to talk about 'family values' when they have affairs, and I know of many who are and have. I will call our elected officials who want to hide in the closet OUT.
In a follow-up interview on Monday with Al.com, a still-upset Todd defended her words, stating, "Don't start throwing bricks at my window when yours is already cracked as well." She also said she believes public sentiment has changed in the years since the 2006 vote and Alabama's leadership "needs to recognize that now."
Speaker Hubbard responded to Todd's Facebook outburst:
I consider Rep. Todd a friend, and we have always enjoyed a good and cordial relationship, so I am sorry that she is upset about my remarks. We do have a fundamental disagreement on allowing same-sex marriages in Alabama, and I will continue to voice my opinion on this important social issue, just as I expect she will continue to voice hers, but we can disagree without being disagreeable.
Bingo.....!!!! Hold your tickets, I think we have a winner!
Homo tolerance on parade, once again.
Like little children, they threaten and pout.
And if it is not this thing, tomorrow it is another thing.
Maybe lesbian is a default position for women who may have had heterosexual inclinations, but hated men, and though they don’t have sexual relations with women, use it as a shining badge of “otherness” and defiance against society.
Kind of like wearing patchouli marked you as being a traveler to India and engaged in a hippie lifestle, when really you only got as far as Pier One Imports.
As it stands now, she’s just claiming that she has a list (and may be implying that those she named were less than honorable).
Joe McCarthy claimed to have a list too (and his critics said that the number of names was ever changing).
Ask her how many people are on her list of adulterers.
Nice jowls..
Actually, I don’t have a problem with this. Adultery is just as bad in God’s eyes as homosexuality. Maybe worse. And especially if they are hypocrites about it (saying they are for “family values”), they should be exposed.
I can see why she is gay. Don’t know a man in his right mind that would find that fat cow attractive. Except maybe a bull in heat, and then he would have to be blind.
I'm sorry, but how does this not meet the definition of an extortionate demand?
No prizes for guessing why she is gay. A guy would have to be drunk or even worse nuts to want to date a woman who is that ugly and looks like a man.
More on point, her reaction to anyone protesting this diktat from a far left, unelected federal judge, that goes against the wishes of 80% of the people of Alabama, is to resort to threats and blackmail. The gay and let lesbian community have got to be the nastiest most vile worms on the political scene right now.
I'd ask her even more. If she has the facts, expose them, please. If it's rumor and innuendo, she should shut up.
Again showing that homosexual activists Are very mean vindictive and petty and childish.
So if our lives are not letter perfect we have no right to oppose homosexual marriage. That’s what this lesbian is saying.
This is also Saul Alinsky crap. But the media will celebrate her actions rather than call her out on it
If she really feels Alabama has changed on marriage since 2006,is she willing to have another vote? Or would she still insist on having judges overturn marriage law anyway? In the latter case she is full of it and full of hypocrisy.
There is a reason they are known as the lavender mafia.
I don’t know. It pulled off the whole woman trying to look like a man trying to look like a woman bit pretty well.
Explain to her that there is a difference between BEING a sinner and CELEBRATING one’s sins.
I guess they’ve treating this rag-munching sow like “one of the guys”, big mistake.
Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.[Posted on 01/31/2013 5:08:50 PM PST by xzins]
I hate it when people feel the need to push their genitals in front of everything they do.
That being said - those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. But I agree with - totally beside the point ... unfortunately.
What you say is true. However, note that there is no effective resistance.
You are missing the point. 80% of the people reject gay marriage. It’s not up to some far left Obamabot federal judge to impose gay marriage on any state. It has nothing to do with some law maker having an affair. Btw, how many affairs has this Amazon woman had herself? Given how promiscuous the gay community is, the chances of she having had affairs are pretty high. Has having affairs ever stopped these gay creeps from loudly expressing their opinions? Nope. James McGreevey anyone?
