WEST DES MOINES, Iowa Billionaire Donald Trump, the most prominent birther to question Barack Obamas eligibility to serve as president, asserted Friday that Sen. Ted Cruz must clear up legal doubts about his own eligibility due to his birth outside the United States.
Its a problem. It could be a difficult problem, but he admits that he was born in Canada, Trump told reporters in Iowa on the eve of the first major gathering of 2016 presidential hopefuls.
Hes a friend of mine. I have great respect for him. But certainly its a stumbling block and hes going to have to have it solved before he goes too far, Trump said.
Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta, on Dec. 22, 1970, while his parents worked in the Canadian oil patch. His mother is a native-born American. His father, a Cuban émigré who later became a naturalized American, was still a Cuban citizen at the time.
Cruzs birth in Canada was never a secret. But it has proven a political liability, with detractors occasionally taunting him as Canadian Ted, and critics suggesting that his birth outside the United States makes him ineligible to run for president.
In August 2013, The Dallas Morning News reported that the circumstances of his birth made him both a Canadian and an American. The dual citizenship came as a surprise to Cruz and his parents, and the senator quickly vowed to shed his Canadian citizenship. That became official last June.
For Trump, thats not yet good enough if Cruz wants to run for and become president....

Donald Trump right there to help his moderate friends, right on cue.
I have no problem with it.
GO CRUZ!
We could always compares Cruz’s documentation to Obama’s. Cruz is at least as qualified as Obola is.
As I understand it, Cruz meets the requirements. You don’t have to be born on US territory, if you are the child of a one parent who is a US citizen.
Trump is an expert on the subject.
Which is why Marco Rubio doesn’t qualify. But after Obama, Ah-nold could run.
Better to born in Canada than Kenya.
No. Arnold can’t run.
Obama was always born a citizen because of his mother.
Birther stuff was always nonsense.
That gives you American citizenship, but does not address the “natural born” due to Ted’s daddy being from Cuba...as were both of Rubio’s parents, and then there’s Jindal with his parents on student visas from India when he was born here in America. So who cares any more about any of that? That ship has sailed. The Repubs never fought Obama on this issue even though McCain had to prove he was eligible. If I were Ahnald Schwarzenegger, I would fight this all the way to the Supreme Court to eliminate this discriminatory rule.
It is not just a rule, it is the Constitution. I like Cruz very much but I too think it is a problem.
Of course many people no longer care what the Constitution says.
“...You dont have to be born on US territory, if you are the child of a one parent who is a US citizen.”

minor correction (as I understand it): “...if you are the child of one parent, OF LEGAL AGE, who is a US citizen.”
Rubio does qualify. He was born Miami to legal resident parents and was a citizen at birth. Nothing could stop Cruz from running either, he was born a citizen just like Rubio, just like Jindal, all 3 of them, period. That is all natural born means, there is no extra special definition, no there’s not, I don’t care what you heard on some blog or from some radio host.
“But after Obama, Ah-nold could run.”
No. That’s as silly as Trump’s comments. Enough of this garbage, really, it’s so 2009. Trump is an a-hole for dredging this up.
I presume now since most people here have Cruz as their first choice that the anti-Cruz birthers will be zotted if they start spewing their BS again, I’m glad.
Damn! Now we’re going to have “The Donald” blowin smoke for next 18 months.
Cruz is a natural born U.S. citizen. He was an American citizen at birth. He never received and never required naturalization.
That rules out Cruz, fortunately we still have Jeb.
Her age at the birthin disqualified her. That’s why they had to cook up the fake Hawaii thingy.

I think Donny might be some kind of sociopath.
Obama's eighteen year old mother was one year too young to confer American citizenship to her son IF he was born outside the United States. The requirement at that time was that at least one parent must have been a U.S. citizen for five years after age 14 to confer citizenship to a child born outside the United States.
Ancient history, that too few people bothered to learn.
