The United States is preparing to open the border to Mexican long-haul truckers, allowing those who qualify for permits to make direct deliveries from Mexico to U.S. destinations a measure stipulated more than two decades ago under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is expected to publish a formal announcement this week inviting Mexican companies to apply.
Supporters in United States and Mexico are praising the move as an important step toward the economic integration of the two countries and Canada that was envisioned at NAFTAs signing in 1994.

You better watch that kind of talk! You’ll get yourself in trouble here. Not that, that’s a bad thing.

This was a provision of NAFTA that was supposed to be implemented years ago, but the U.S. government kept deferring it for “safety reasons.”

I will do most anything including ignoring a Federal court order to go into Austin to stay off I35 just not worth the risk or aggravation. Getting good at the back roads or toll roads thing . Austin has some nice things but not worth I35. Feel for those who have to drive it everyday.

I’m thinking that this move just effectively put the last nail in the coffin on the War on Drugs.
There is no way that we’ll be able to manage the smuggling - of drugs or people. Heck, we can’t stop it with the way things are now.

Go back to 2011 for the first truck to cross into the US under the NAFTA agreement.
Nearly 20 Years After NAFTA, First Mexican Truck Arrives In U.S. Interior
Updated: 12/24/2011 5:12 am EST
DALLAS -- Nearly two decades after the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the
first Mexican truck ventured into the U.S. under provisions of the controversial treaty.
With little fanfare, a white tractor-trailer with Mexican license plates entered the courtyard
of the Atlas Copco facility in Garland, Texas on Saturday afternoon to unload a Mexico-
manufactured metal structure for drilling oil wells.
The delivery marked the first time that a truck from Mexico reached the U.S. interior under
the 17-year-old trade agreement, which was supposed to give trucks from the neighboring
countries access to highways on both sides of the border. The Obama administration signed
an agreement with Mexico to end the long dispute over the NAFTA provision in July that
also removes $2 billion in duties on American goods.

Those in the business dealing with this betrayal of our sovereignty could not care less. They’d take shipments directly from terrorist if it meant a bit of a profit. Not to mention sending their factories to Communist China.

Have an accident down in old Mexico in your car/truck and you in a heap a trouble boy.
I don’t go there and don’t want them here. Last time I was close to that s***hole, outside LAX, a cholo hit my car and ran like a rabbit.
Screw the North American Union, Mexico, Obama and his illegal future Democrats.

I lived in Chihuahua, Chihuahua for 10 years. Yes you are correct about the class of highways in MX. As a matter of fact, I’ll bet that most Northern Mexican highways are superior to all the interstates in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois on any given day.
Still...we know what those trucks bring into the USA via México....mostly trouble.....MHO of course.

I saw a lot of trucks and cars in Mexico driving on the highway with a bent frame. We rode in a taxi that had a bent frame. It looks so weird, they are driving straight but the body of the vehicle is at an angle. They wouldn’t pass inspection in the US.

I hope we are making them toe the line on safety like we do with the Canadians. A picture painted on the cab of the Virgin of Guadeloupe is no substitute for good brakes
