White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest reacted to the news that House Speaker John Boehner had invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to speak to a joint session of Congress, calling it a departure from protocol.
The typical protocol would suggest that the leader of a country would contact the leader of another country when he is traveling there and thats certainly is how President Obamas trips are planned when we travel overseas, he said. This particular event seems to be a departure from that protocol.
Netanyahus visit was announced earlier this morning after Obamas State of the Union address. Earnest said that the White House found out about the trip shortly before Boehners announcement.
Earnest said that the White House hadnt heard directly from the Israelis at all and didnt know if the Prime Minster would be visiting the White House during his trip.
Well need to hear from them about what their plans are and what he plans to say in his remarks to Congress before we have a decision to make about any meeting, Earnest explained, pointing out that the White House would reserve judgement about the trip until they had conversations with Israeli officials.

They should also invite Nigel Farage from UKIP.
‘Since when does the self-anointed one care about protocol?”
Only when it’s to his advantage, you can rest assured of that.
This is not a total departure from precedent. Winston Churchill’s December 26, 1941 address to a joint session of the US Congress was shortly after the US entry into the Second World War, and was the assurance that the US Congress, at least, was fully on the side of the Allies.
Obola despises Bibi. With any luck, having Bibi in Congress will piss Obola off so much he’ll blow a brain artery.
Boehner is making it clear that although the President is determined to sign an agreement with medieval, lunatic, apocalyptic mullahs that are fond of making apocalyptic threats, that would result in them obtaining nuclear arms, the Congress recently elected by the American people is opposed to such an agreement and understands what is at stake.
With any luck, having Bibi in Congress will piss Obola off so much hell blow a brain artery.
Let’s hope so.
Err, would that be the same protocol he kicked into the gutter when he didn’t go to Paris or send a high-level representative? I guess it all depends, as you say, on what Bambi wants.
It may be a “departure from protocol” but it sure as hell beats inviting James Taylor in to do a collection of his greatest hits for the Congress.
Was that the Dalai Lama? Perhaps it happened to both.
Either way, Bibi should be prepared to go the the white hut on his way back... perhaps he'd have drank a good deal of Congressional Podium water, and need to take a leak before going to the airport.
What makes spokes boy think Bibi desires a meeting with Obie???
Who said anything about Reuven Rivlin coming here ?
I love it, BamBam must be seething.
FINALLY Johnny boy does something right..good job!!! So happy that Bibi is coming here..and you can see that the White House is seething, they despise Israel and they particularly despise Bibi Netanyahu
A friend of mine made this comment: “Pre-empts the possibility of John Kerry inviting Streisand to sing “People” at the Wailing Wall ahead of additional Iranian sanctions...”
This whining from the “President” who made an ILLEGAL ALIEN his get of honor at the SOTU address?
The 8astard insulted every AMERICAN citizen, and he did it deliberately IMO.
I hope Bibi makes no effort to contact or meet with Obozo.
get = guest
