Tesla P85D Destroys Dodge Challenger Hellcat On Dragstrip: Electric Car Thrashes 707-HP Hemi (Video)
Green Car Reports ^ | Jan 19, 2015 | John Voelcker

Say "P85D" to Tesla owners and fans, and you will see the drooling and twitching and heavy breathing and lustful stares--and more drooling--that Tesla's fastest, highest-performance electric car brings.

The same happens with the word "Hellcat" for fans of high-powered Hemi V-8 performance.

Now, courtesy of two owners--each convinced that their car is the fastest, baddest beast on the road--we know what happens when the two cars face off on the drag strip.

Two days ago at Palm Beach International Raceway, a Tesla Model S P85D and a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat competed in the traditional quarter-mile drag race.

Hint: It's no contest. At all. And the quieter car wins decisively.

...

And, now, can we please stop with the "wimpy electric golf car" stuff?

“It’s not my govt. I don’t care who makes their cars or how. I don’t pay Japan’s taxes. Or Germany’s. I just won’t fund my own demise in this country.”

Wow, you have no idea how that plays out, do you? That is like saying you will vote for Hillary because Mitt is not conservative enough. Along the same lines as your debate with Hot Tobasco, your extreme purism has painted you into a completely irrational corner.

“I understand the 4 cylinder Ford Mustang of today absolutely blows away a 2005 Ford Mustang GT with the V8.”

You understand wrong if you are comparing stock.

Today's 4 banger.... 310 hp and 320 lbs of torque

vs.

10 year old V8..... 300 hp and 320 lbs of torque.

Pretty sure I've read other reviews that made apples to apples comparisons of stock models. The four cylinder wins out.

“Hmmm,, kinda like the way we hear the budget will be balanced in the year 2025 or 2040. Long after the SOBs are out of office.”

Exactly like that. Kicking the can down the road and claiming success while no one notices.

Ah... I WOULD vote for Hillary before mit because her actual record in office IS IN FACT more conservative.

Look it up. No really. Look it up.

Isn’t that what the ‘most conservative avaliable’ crowd wants?

That said, I don’t subscribe to that stupidity, or yours about govt funding and thus vote and spend conservatively.

“The physics dictate that electrics are the future.”

Yet the chemistry says otherwise. Not so bright, are ya?

Hell, these idiots that have no real education in engineering keep telling us Linux is the future of computing. That hasn’t happened yet either.

I hear ya. I've been drag racing and building cars for over 40 years. I know what 700HP will do. Even in a fat, overweight car like a Hellcat.

The one I'm working on now I'm hoping to see what 900HP will do, all motor, gas and atmospheric pressure only.

Fingers crossed.

Ten hp isn’t exactly blowing it away. And there are other factors involved. Documented quarter mile times are in the 13’s for the GT, slightly lower than the 2015 I-4.

I could outrun the Tesla to the end of my street and back with just my legs. What would that prove? That the time it would take the Tesla to turn around half way would give me the advantage on the 120 foot race. Just because under certain conditions the Tesla does well does not make it practical. When it will go 400-500 miles with a 10 minute charge let me know.

You misunderstood my statement or took what I said out of context - I said the 11.## quarter mile time should not have stood up to a 700 horse power car. To show a muscle car finishing the quarter at 85 mph and acting like the other car was superior is shakey at best.

True.

But the real question is....

Would you spend $7,000 more for a Mustang GT over the Eco-boost? Purists will.

This Is Why The 2015 Mustang GT Is $7,000 More Than The Ecoboost
