CORONADO, Calif. (AP) Republican presidential prospect Ben Carson on Thursday compared the Islamic State group to American patriots willing to die for freedom.
In a speech to the Republican National Committee's winter meeting outside San Diego, the former neurosurgeon and conservative favorite praised American patriots for their willingness to give their lives for their beliefs. Then he mentioned the Islamic State group.

Thanks for clarifying. Glad to know he was taken out of context. He needs to be ‘wise as a serpent’ if he is going to enter the toxic land of politics.
Not so quick... if Carson has a chance to talk back he will make them look like fools.
Some charity might be employed before judging a person. Is this asking Carson qua future president, or Carson qua a doctor?
It would be well within the purview of a doctor to advise behavior he believes to be wise. That does not mean he wishes the government upon you to enforce it if you refuse.
LOL, I didn’t catch that, but I should pretend that I did it on purpose.
Ted Cruz is our best hope.
Principled, measured and polite.
Yes that’s what I said. What I meant
So far, something like this could be easily answered with as much honesty as he put into his initial comments.
The wisdom is in realizing he has more of a bully pulpit than he thinks, if he is willing to use it.
Be Professional, be polite and have a plan.
If Carson wants to carry water for the Brady Campaign then that’s up to him. But my right to have an AR-15 is not up to him. And I won’t put him in a position where he can interfere with my right.
It’s not like we don’t have plenty of other talented people who know what the 2nd Amendment means.
God is our best hope.
Any number of people could carry the Holy Spirit. It might be Cruz, but God will also not bless a people who does not want him.
Oh good grief, carry water for the Brady Campaign.
That shows how prejudged you are.
he knows it and is using it
he is the smartest candidate in a very long long time.
he is running for health care czar and has money support from business sick of obama care
All those patriots out slaughtering folks who were loyal to the king ... yep ...
I am a true believer, but religion throws a major wrench into politics.
weve always been such a heinous bunch....ya...
There is no freedom in Islam, so this doesn’t work
>>If it makes you feel any better I already wrote of Carson over his stated views on gun control. Once he went down the path of a needs based right I wondered why black people need the right to vote. I mean if were going to have to justify a need to exercise a right then Id like to start with something that hits him where he lives.
He’s not a perfect Conservative so he’s dead to us. Let’s keep knocking them down until we get our Romney/Bush Dream Team.
Note the dates. He has rethought those 2013 comments.
Law-abiding citizens absolutely should have gun rights
Ben Carson said he changed his mind and was against gun registration because “sinister internal forces” could surface in that scenario. He “used to think they needed to be registered, but if you register them they just come and find you and take your guns.” He said, “I would never advocate anything to interfere with Second Amendment rights; however, I do think we have to be intelligent”ÿand address situations where people with AK-47s are mowing people down.ÿ “We need to discuss, ‘Is there something we can do?’ÿ We have to keep in mind that law-abiding American citizens absolutely should have gun rights.”

Law-abiding citizens have right to guns without registration

Semi-automatic weapons ok in countryside, but not cities
Appearing on Glenn Beck’s radio show this past week, Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn’t be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.
Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated. However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”
