In response to a Facebook post by USC Annenberg journalism professor Marc Cooper about the New York Times' decision not to publish Charlie Hebdo cartoons this week, New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet had this to say:

Okay, would their executive editor prefer “extremely impotent limpwristed pseudointellectual sock dologizing effeminate coward”?
Come on, people. We are all or mostly adults talking here. We should not have to spell out or silently mouth the letter shapes of so many ‘forbidden w**ds’. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that expression on the radio. And it goes w/o saying that anonymous bloggers love to anonymously curse. Sometimes I too get caught up in being over cautious.
He wouldn’t say that to Muslims though
I think we do it more on the fear of moderators (God bless them) pulling our posts for ‘inappropriate comments’.
Civil wars have been started over comments on Facebook.
They are cowards. Only the AP is worse.
True that. What was it Barry Goldwater is said to have stated; “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice, And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
So, yes, we wanna-be-writers need someone to tell us when we go a little over the top.
“Haters gota hate”
LOL
This is even worse than not publishing the cartoons — deliberate deception:
“Not only is The New York Times afraid to publish any of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that ridicule Islam and Mohammed, it has also intentionally misquoted one of the newspapers employees in an effort to sanitize the motives of the attackers.
“According to the French media, via blogger Ace of Spades, employee Sigolene Vinson was told by one of the killers, Im not going to kill you because youre a woman, we dont kill women, but you must convert to Islam, read the Quran and cover yourself.
“The New York Times reports only that the killer told her, Dont be afraid, calm down, I wont kill you. You are a woman. But think about what youre doing. Its not right. We dont shoot women! We dont shoot women! We dont shoot women!
“Other media outlets repeat the Times version. Reasonable people, of course, would be inclined to trust the report by the French media that was on the scene and spoke with Ms. Vinson.”
You mean “peace be upon them”
Didn’t you just contradict yourself by quoting Goldwater, then saying the opposite?
It is an rather eliptical statement, open to interpretation.
Not really.
Um, no. What the...?
It’s unambiguous and you definitely contradicted yourself.
Only twits twittle on twitter...
Looks like the genius editor signed off as “A______” by virtue of punctuation.
The NY Slimes picks on Sara Palin and her six year old Down’s Syndrome son, Trig. That’s the extent of their courage. Contemptible.
