ank-and-file Republicans are fuming at what they see as the heavy-handed tactics of Republican leaders, one day after a divisive vote that narrowly handed Speaker John Boehner the gavel for another term.
Members who opposed Boehner on the floor are frustrated that two rebels have already been stripped of committee assignments, while the speaker's allies, angered by an embarrassingly close vote that played out on national television, warn darkly of more punishment to come. And some conservatives who backed Boehner complain that they are now facing a different kind of retributionfrom the Right.
(snip)
Retribution is not being enacted simply against those who participated in the attempted coup, and members are using that fact in a plea for leniency for their colleagues. Members who have often butted heads with the speaker but who voted for him on Tuesday said leadership should understand they are facing consequences from the Right for supporting Boehner in the face of an onslaught of people demanding they depose him.
Rep. Raul Labrador rose in front of his colleagues at Wednesday's Conference meeting and said he has already drawn a primary challenge over his vote for Boehner. Labrador read from his smartphone from the more than 4,000 comments people had posted on his Facebook page, including one calling him a "scumbag asshole" for supporting Boehnerand joked that it's all true. Conservative talk-radio host Mark Levin had specifically directed listeners to target Labrador for his vote, he noted.
Other members spent Wednesday afternoon defending their vote for Boehner to local press, and some said that after December's omnibus vote and Tuesday's display on the House floor, they have never been under more pressure from constituents.

Newt Gingrich? I heard him on Hannity on Tuesday. I’m no longer a fan.
A Biblical thought as they ran over the cliff!
I in no way said a damn thing about Supporting the RINOs. If you're going to say
things I didn't write we can go on all day long with your silly little game.
You play and I'll watch.
Enough sour grapes on Boner. Time to congratulate him. Let me suggest for us sending him little gifts of pink neckties and Kleenex tissues for the occasion. The tan faced Bone always has a brown nose to blend in the subterfuge.
The GOP at this moment is a greater threat to conservatism than the DNC. The DNC is merely the opposition. The GOP is out for blood.
Both parties are opposition parties to conservatism.
Of course, closer to 2016, FR will be full of FReepers assuring us that not voting for the GOP is a vote for the opposition. The GOP IS the opposition.
The sooner we realize that the better.
At this point, a third party seems to be the only available avenue to promote conservatism. There is simply no home for conservative ideas in either major party.
They both deserve to lose.
Actually Boehner’s actions display the intolerance of opposing views most often shown by progressives and liberals. So apparently Boehner has morphed into the opposition and we are now left with Democrats and progressive Democrats. Bad day for America, even worse if Bush becomes the presidential candidate. Recruit friends and neighbors to keep pressure on your representative and look for a bankable replacement.
Get to the issue of your Third party, Convince me and stop playing word games.
If you cannot handle the attribution(sp) of being tarred and feathered maybe you
should be in Boehner's camp. Or maybe you are by calling for that third party.
shows you have a hermetically sealed mind.
You are damn right about that, I'm up for the fight against the RINOs, and running
away from the court with the ball is not the correct response or answer
to this political War.
I see Congress works like the mafia and the godfather rules the roost...
We send people to Congress to represent us and they end up supporting the godfather...And if they don’t support the godfather, they are cut out of the process of representing their State...Either way, we don’t have a State Representative...
Interesting critter, that Congress...
I’ll defend your right to express views here on Free Republic. 3rd party would be great in theory but has a bad track record for success. Your frustrated like the rest of us that’s all.
There is something going on here. Tea party candidates turning as soon as they hit DC-it doesn’t even take any time-Boehnoer, the “conservative” congressmen who supported him, John Roberts on the SC upholding CommieCare-there is definitely something going on.
“There is simply no home for conservative ideas in either major party.”
I cannot believe the defeatism I hear coming from so many conservatives. MadMax is absolutely right. The Republican Party is OUR party. Are we going to keep running away from fights? Can’t you see it’s all about the votes? The person with the most votes wins.
There is simply no way for the RINOs to keep us from eventually seizing control so long as we don’t hand victory by refusing to engage. Every single conservative who gives up and leaves the GOP makes it that much easier for the RINOs or Democrats to win. Good luck winning primaries by choosing to not participate!
I ask, how in the world are conservatives going to create a successful third party when we can’t even cooperate enough to win control of the GOP—a party where we are still the largest faction?
Now they’re whining about catching hell from the right...
And yellow Lab crying about already having a primary opponent... Bwaaaaahhh
That’s what happens when they go against the will of the people.
How do we “take it back”, when even the self-described “conservatives” and Tra Party candidates whom we manage to elect, turn when they get there? When people like Barbour and Cochran tell conservatives to hit the door even as they themselves seek ‘rat votes by calling conservatives-their own supposed constituents-”racists”? We elect them on their stated conservative platform, then when they get to Congress, right before our eyes, they take off the mask. How do fight lies and liars, when all you can vote for is what they say about themselves, if they don’t yet have a voting record?
It’s very few-Cruz, and small handful-who haven’t betrayed conservative principles.
Indeed it is. John Roberts got turned too.
“...Members who opposed Boehner on the floor are frustrated that two rebels have already been stripped of committee assignments”....
“...Boehner told Nugent that he and Webster are two separate cases. While Nugent voted against the speaker, it was Webster who allowed himself to be drafted into a haphazard campaign against Boehner....”
“...Rep. Raul Labrador rose in front of his colleagues at Wednesday’s Conference meeting and said he has already drawn a primary challenge over his vote for Boehner....”

Does anyone here know who Raul Labrador’s 2016 primary challenger is and is this challenger CREDIBLE? It’s time we DEFEAT the wolves in sheep’s clothing and the Amnesty Proponents. If folks in Idaho need help in unseating Labrador in 2016 (when the next vote to oust Boehner will be held) we need a credible name and a link to his/her campaign so WE CAN CONTRIBUTE.
I’m not an Idaho voter but I’ll contribute to Labrador’s primary opponent’s campaign. WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION NOW FOLKS; WE CAN’T WAIT UNTIL 2016 AND HOPE TO SUCCEED.
ACT NOW....AND DO NOT ALLOW YOUR ANGER TO DISSIPATE OVER TIME. AND, ABOVE ALL, DO NOT FORGET THESE CRITICAL BETRAYALS.
