Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, shocked some conservatives Tuesday when the first vote she cast as a new congresswoman was to keep Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, as House speaker.
Twitter erupted, with several people claiming to be in her district saying they had lost faith in their previous hero, and that she had shown her true self. Remember, this was not a vote on legislation, it was a vote for the speaker of the House.
Love, in an email to the Washington Examiner, provided some insight into why she chose to keep Boehner as GOP leader.
There were no qualified or notable campaigns for speaker within the Republican Party other than John Boehner, Love said. Casting a vote for a candidate who has not actively campaigned and does not have the support to be speaker is an indirect vote for Nancy Pelosi, and I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi.
Love also reminded voters that she is playing the long game when it comes to fighting for conservative principles.
There will be a time and a place for me to stand as a lone voice of dissension, but the vote for the speaker, is not that place, Love said. For me to be an effective congressman over the next two years it is important for me to be on the side of the elected speaker.
She sounds just like the delusional loony GOPe RINO libs on this site who constantly tell us we have to vote for republicans or else we’re voting for — Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc.
If she didn’t know who to vote for, she could have voted present. But then I guess, in her mind, following the devil is better than standing on the sidelines.
Good post!!
I could have advised her....much better.
Who is she listening to?
Who is she beholding to?
I have questions..that I'm pretty sure won't be answered.
Just another berry on the vine..........
Very sad to say...you are correct.
I believe that other inbound freshmen voted otherwise.
Not sure who she is listening to...
Better she cast a meaningless vote that would have been abrogated in the next round, all for making a symbolic point at the expense of her district’s representation in Congress.
A better organized campaign may have defeated Boehner. Regardless, once it was apparent that they didn’t have the numbers, it was foolish for anyone to vote against Boehner.
Hope they have fun being on no committees, being asked to sponsor no bills, having anything they propose crushed, and just generally being told to sit down and shut up. And then, with nothing to hang their hats on two years from now, they WILL be opposed in the primaries, those opponents will almost certainly get party money, and they’ll probably lose.
Congress is designed as an old boys’ club, it’s all about seniority and alliances, and the less of one you have the more of the other you desperately need. Freshmen have none of the former, and any that voted against Boehner will find they also have none of the later. It sucks, but that’s the world they chose to enter.
Potomac Fever hits hard and fast on many of the noob politicians.
They are easily enamored by the glitz and glitter and lose direction.
I'm sure you do but I'm not sure they are justified..........
If you want to condemn her as the MSM is hoping you do simply because she's not a typical black person, then at least give her a year in office..........don't let the real racists influence you.........
She’s black. There’s no way boner would have retaliated against her if she’d use the tools at her disposal.
She got boneheads talking point lies to a tee.
I agree with you totally!
Well...I'm not answering to you..to see if I'm "justified"...thank God!! : )
If you want to condemn her as the MSM is hoping you do simply because she's not a typical black person, then at least give her a year in office..........don't let the real racists influence you......
...Well...I don't listen to the MSM...I see, hear, and read what I read....and she's not off to a wonderful start.
FWIW---....I never said she was a "typical black person" which...may I point out...YOU did.
Now what do you want to talk about?
There's also merit wondering about her vote...and jumping into the CBC..right off.
I gave a good deal of money to her campaign....and I'm not happy today.
Tried to tell her office that...and get stonewalled.
Seems like....it's the same ol thing...over and over again.
My newly elected congressman voted "Present" and is catching hell all over the internet. Rightly so.
He knew his voters wanted him to vote "No" to Boehner.
He is a coward.
DISAGREE and it looks like a lot of Reps are trying on that fig leaf.
Of course in a Boehner vs Pelosi one-on-one, we’d take the crying fool over the stone-faced witch. But forcing it to a second ballot was the real aim. Just like Øbama’s inexplicable way of negotiating, giving all up front and then looking for concessions, Mia bailed out too soon and there was no extraction of concessions from Bonehead. Sure enough, he is laying on the payback stick to those disloyal to him while being loyal to their constituents (God Bless you, Congressman Posey).
Feel free to stop by his facebook and say hi to another Boehner boy. Another newby voted for the dysfunctional Erectile.
This guy claimed he was a strong Conservative leader when Campaigning. Snicker...
John Moolenaar, 4th district Michigan
Sorry. I see her point. We are fighting battle after battle in hopes of winning the War on American Values.
*****************************
I also see her point. .....I watched the voting and was becoming a little anxious when Boehner only had a 15-20 vote lead. If more Pubbies had voted for someone else, it’s possible that Pelosi could have won by having the majority of the voiced name votes.
Pelosi was never going to get a majority.
