After the Washington Post reported that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) spoke at a 2002 event hosted by a white nationalist group, RedState editor Erick Erickson knocked Scalise's supposed ignorance about the organization.
According to the Post's Robert Costa, Scalise appeared at an event for the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, a group founded by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, but didn't know at the time that the organization was a hate group.
Erickson was not willing to give Scalise the benefit of the doubt.
"How do you not know? How do you not investigate?" Erickson wrote on Monday. "By 2002, everybody knew Duke was still the man he had claimed not to be. EVERYBODY."
"How the hell does somebody show up at a David Duke organized event in 2002 and claim ignorance?" Erickson asked.
The conservative writer then suggested that Scalise lose the support of House Republican leaders over his decision to speak at the 2002 event.
Going through all that deception and subterfuge to talk to a small group looks like too complicated a story. Was Scalise really that desperate to get a speaker's fee or to get his message out to another 18 people?
Given how chaotic and scandalous Louisiana politics can be, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions at this point about what was going on.
No she’s not. Scalise went to the same building, 2 hours earlier, to a different room, organized by the same front man for neo-Nazi David Duke, had some of the same crowd in attendance, and received a $1000 donation from Knight who was the known front man for Duke.
You’re being told it’s not true because it wasn’t precisely the same meeting as Duke’s.
But it was the same nazi organizer and the same nazi people in the same building at roughly the same time.
Duke controlled a lot of votes in Louisiana at that time.
Also, Knight is Scalise’s friend and neighbor.
You are right. Let’s give up. It’s all over...
Dump Boehner. That’s the cure for a lot of things.
It was interesting to hear NPR cover the issue yesterday—and call Scalise a through and through tea party conservative.
Can’t do it. Like you said, it’ll be about Nazi’s now.
Clean House is the place to start.
Sarah is calling for his stepping down from leadership.
The gope-STAB is in all-out war against us, and we need to not only fight harder but take otherwise dastardly measures to end them.
Scalise fought against the Tea Party.
“Reports that Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, the third-ranking Republican in the House, gave a speech to a group connected with white supremacist David Duke in 2002 are not accurate, the man who organized the events said Wednesday.
Kenny Knight, a longtime political adviser to Duke, told The Times-Picayune of New Orleans that Scalise spoke at a meeting of the Jefferson Heights Civic Association, not affiliated with the European-American Unity and Rights conference that was held in the same Metairie hotel two-and-a-half hours before the white nationalist event started.
Barbara Noble, who was dating Knight and said she attended the meeting, also said Wednesday that Scalise spoke to the civic group, not EURO, according to the paper.”
And Obama is pals with Bill Ayers, a terrorist.
If he keeps the job, maybe we shouldn’t call him “the whip”. I’m just sayin’
Knight is a neo-Nazi. Why did Scalise go to ANYTHING that a neo-Nazi would organize?
Don’t you find it odd that it was the same building, same day, a few hours apart, and had many of the same people in attendance at both events?
It was planned, plausible deniability, Beagle.
Then Scalise got at least one donation of $1000 from the neo-nazis.
Isn’t it maddening that Boehner and Scalise are using the same playbook as Obama and Ayers.
Are you the liberal blogger that started the story? It has been debunked!
Palin supports Levin's analysis:
Mark Levin wrote a new note: Mr. Scalise...
1. Why did you attend any meeting at the behest of your neighbor - a known, long-time David Duke operator and confidant, Kenny Knight?
2. You know David Duke is a vile racist and anti-Semite, right?
3. If so, why did you have any association at all with Knight, a lowlife, let alone and apparently a mildly friendly one?
4. It has been reported that this sicko donated $1000 to your campaign. Amazingly, even now you apparently haven't returned it. Why?
5. I have to ask, Mr. Scalise, are you an idiot?
So, not debunked at all. The neo-nazis invited Steve Scalise to a meeting. He accepted. It was in the same place; simply a different room. It was 2 hours before their Nazi meeting, but it had Nazis from their group in attendance.
What is NOT to understand here?
I know that, and he’s of course completely with the McConnell GOPe agenda. But the story worked so much better for our national propagandist radio to smear the tea party with his purported crimes.
Sharpton, Jackson, Muslim Brotherhood, Nation of Islam, Jeremiah Wright, CAIR, Jeremiah Wright are all welcome in the Obama White House.
Antisemites, black separatists, Islamic supremacists, the whole lot.
No controversy, no blowback.

The results are sometimes comical, as people whose names resembled the famous — and infamous — forced the West Wing to wave reporters away from the juiciest of apparent visits. Did ‘60s radical William Ayers, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and filmmaker Michael Moore all visit the Obama White House, as the list indicated? Aides were quick to say: It wasn’t that Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright or Michael Moore, although more details about the identities of the real visitors were not provided.
