Rep. Jim Bridenstine: Why I Will Not Vote for John Boehner to Be House Speaker
The Daily Signal ^ | January 02, 2015 | Rep. Jim Bridenstine

Posted on 01/02/2015 10:14:42 AM PST by iowamark

The day after Republicans won the largest majority in the House of Representatives in almost 100 years and won a significant majority in the Senate, our liberal activist president claimed to hear the voices of all the people who didn’t vote. It was another example of stunning obstinacy from this president.

It seemed Democrats were melting down, Republicans were unified, and all we had to do was buy enough time to get our Republican reinforcements to Washington in January.

Like President Obama, Speaker John Boehner must have heard voices that didn’t vote.

Together, they crafted the CR/omnibus, a $1.1 trillion spending bill that funded the government for 10 months and blocked our newest elected Republicans from advancing conservative policy and delivering on campaign promises. With this vote, Republicans gave away the best tool available to rein in our liberal activist president: the power of the purse. The power of the purse is Congress’ constitutional strength.

For the next 10 months, the CR/omnibus will fulfill Obama’s ambition of creating an even larger constituency of dependency on Obamacare. The president’s goal has always been to create as much dependency as possible before enforcing the destructive employer mandate. The CR/omnibus hands the liberals that victory. This is unconscionable after watching the campaign rhetoric that won such decisive victories for the GOP.

Department of Homeland Security appropriations expire in February, when Republicans will supposedly fight to defund the illegal amnesty plan created by the president. Does anybody believe that Obama is concerned about Republicans not funding DHS? Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have already sued the administration for not allowing them to enforce the law.

The Constitution requires the president to faithfully execute the laws of the United States. He has refused to enforce the laws on border security, Obamacare, illicit drugs and the release of detained terrorists. His activism in his last two years has accelerated to include executive amnesty, initiating international climate deals without a treaty, and establishing an embassy in Cuba without consulting Congress. When our Constitution is under assault and House Republicans give away our constitutional power of the purse, they share the guilt of abandoning our founding principles.

The CR/omnibus legislation sufficiently undermines the checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution that it warrants my pending vote against the speaker. John Boehner went too far when he teamed with Obama to advance this legislation. He relinquished the power of the purse, and with it he lost my vote.

“I think 20 or so Republicans will look good (some of them moles doing it for show) and not support Boehner, but he will win anyway.”

Yup. The House of Kabuki will put on a fine show vote, full of drama, only to re-elect him by a close margin. It’ll be carefully choreographed to send the message that “ our voices were heard.”

“Above all, do not underestimate the enemy.”

Indeed. But take your analysis one step further: he’s smart enough to know that he has to make a good show of it, to show that “our voices were heard.” So the vote will be carefully choreographed, and “close”, even if he has to get some of his supporters to vote against him. The media will gush about the close vote, conservatives will think they made some difference, and our beloved speaker will go back to cutting deals like nothing ever happened. Because nothing WILL have happened.

“By 1 vote.”

Norm, Norm, Norm. You’re so cynical! Now you know the House of Kabuki will choreograph the vote better than that. It’ll be somewhere in the 5 to 10 range. Close, but not close enough.

Because nothing WILL have happened.

"Kabuki" is well known in DC. E.G., Obama's "Amnesty by Executive Order" was no such thing. It was a head fake. All that actually happened was that the DOJ said it would no longer prosecute illegal entry, hence no deportation. There's absolutely no paper trail back to Barry's desk.

BFD. They don't prosecute it now. Obama threatens "Executive Orders" but in reality issues rather few. What happens instead is that Team Obama knows very well what is expected of them and goes ahead and executes the POTUS' wishes on nothing more than a subliminal wink and nod. Or the word from Valerie Jarrett. It is altogether possible that Barry has little idea of what is going on around him.

Proving the GOP is no different than the Dems, certain members are being allow to posture while the elites know there are not enough votes to oust Boehner. Obama is laughing all the way to the proverbial bank. He knows he will get his amnesty funding..

Yeah, the whole amnesty thing has been well played by the uniparty. They’ve gotten amnesty without ever taking a direct vote on the policy or anyone putting pen to paper. Everyone’s responsible but no one is accountable.

What are the odds that this idiot can really be dumped? Long odds, I'll bet. One reason I left the party in 2012.

Bridenstine should run against Lankford in 2016 for the full term.

Yep, fight to lose.
Predictably I see he's not asking House members to elect him as Speaker and Mark Levin is not asking him to ask for it either.,

A buncha ‘rats could easily come to Boner’s rescue.

I don’t think there is anything in the constitution that forbids this.

There isn't. But it wouldn't be realistic to expect anybody to assume the duties of Speaker while remaining a Senator.

It's academic anyway. Neither Cruz nor Lee --norany other Senator -- is ever going to be tapped for Speaker of the House.

Also be advised that to throw the bum out will personally cost the 'reformers' millions, and if the coup fails they will never be heard from again or receive a cent of RNC campaign support.

True. So, what does that tell us about the quality of our representatives, and by extension, the People? That really, our country at this time is composed of moral cowards; money grubbers selling out the future for their thirty pieces. Until that changes, we will get more of the same.

The 2010 TEA wave brought in MANY Reps...I have the original list, somewhere.

Not sure how many of them are still in office (some got primaried, or redistricted out of office - ala Col West, by establishment, etc), or have been co-opted/corrupted (like Ellmers), but this is the group that should be targeted for phone calls, as well.

I have a fax that I am sending to every office. I’m just going down the phone directory list. Some of the brand new reps apparently don’t have the phones switched yet. That may be on purpose.

It just takes a while, for them to get set up. You can look up their campaign sites, and sometimes get good contact info.

Bless you...for all that you’re doing. EVERY Conservative should be doing this.

......That really, our country Or rather, its Government Process at this time is composed of moral cowards; money grubbers selling out the future for their thirty pieces. Until that changes, we will get more of the same.

Human nature never changes. However, the technological advances Western Civilization has made will tend to speed up any harm coming from the negative aspects of our nature. E.G., The Roman Republic actually had a 700-year history as a more or less true "Republic" BEFORE Julius Caesar, and another 400 after him as an empire, another 200 after that as a dieing empire, etc. We have been able to considerably condense the process. Our Republic is on the brink of ruin after less than 300 years, before dissolving into internecine warfare, with various groups of barbarians supporting differing factions.

We're trying to re-establish the Constitution, patriotic Romans were forever trying to re-establish their republic. Wish us better luck. Next few weeks should tell us where to place our bets!

My house rep Elijah Cummings is voting against Boehner, for Pelosi, so no point in calling him.

Pelosi as Speaker knew how to rule, she didnt tolerate free spirits.,
