'Cancer is the best way to die, according to a former editor of The British Medical Journal.
Richard Smith, who is chairman of the board of directors of medical smartphone app Patients Know Best, believes the opportunity to reflect on life before it ends is important.
In an article published in The BMJ, the 62-year-old wrote that while most people tell him they would prefer a sudden death, he thinks that is very hard on the families of the deceased.'

Clearly this man has never suffered cancer or watched a loved one die of it.
My Dad thought it was real special...
So I hear.
Oh I’ll vouch for that. I wish mightily I could send him back to 95 and swap with my wife. Not sure if the pain or his disappointment at being wrong would hurt him more though. I’m betting pain.
I guess old age isn’t a option.
Nonsense. The best way to die is by being shot simultaneously in bed by the angry husbands of three extremely hot bisexual triplets after a rampaging weekend in the sack with them.
At the age of 99. . .
Well then I say he should go for it, leave the rest of us alone.
Not even close. Errol Flynn, Nelson Rockefeller and Attila the Hun all found a better way to go.
That’s crystal clear. I’d have a thing or two to tell this self-righteous BMA quack about what my late father had to go through.
Oh yeah and slowly being feed into a wood chipper, feet first, is a good way to die too....(sarcasm off).
What the h*ll is in the water in Europe to write such a ridiculous article?!!!
Nothing wrong with the water, just him.
Rogue: "How do you want to die??"
Tyrion: "In bed. At the age of 80. With a belly full of wine. And a girls's mouth on my ..."
Your post is missing the Cocaine ;)
It gives you a chance to put your affairs in order if they aren’t already but other than that it’s pretty bad on everybody.
I watched my dad die of cancer and I agree with this medical expert. Knowing he was going to die allowed him to get his affairs in order, spend time with his loved ones and knock a few things off his bucket list. It also allowed us as a family to prepare ourselves for his passing and say our goodbyes.
I've often thought that cancer at an older age is how I'd like to go. Much better than, say, getting hit by a bus on my way home from work, something that nobody ever saw coming and nobody prepared for.
We got to spend a final Christmas together. All the kids and grandkids. We all knew it would be dad's last Christmas, even dad himself. It was still a wonderful time and I cherish those memories.
Yeh I know my sister sure loved it. And my Dad. It really did my heart good to watch the way they went.
Dying peacefully in your sleep... unlike your screaming bus passengers.
“Nonsense. The best way to die is by being shot simultaneously in bed by the angry husbands of three extremely hot bisexual triplets after a rampaging weekend in the sack with them.”
That’s my plan.
Nelson Rockefeller??? I thought he died in bed with some hot... Ah, I see your point:)
