Target is fighting back after being criticized for Annie-themed clothing ads showing a white model as Annie, as opposed to an African-American model, or Quvenzhané Wallis, the actress who plays the character in the holiday remake.
LaSean Rinique told Yahoo she launched a Change.org petition after her daughter, an Annie fan, noticed that a girl in the ads sporting Annies signature red dress and locket was white, unlike Wallis, who appears alongside Jamie Foxx in the movie remake.

“race goggles”
A White Shaft or a Black sheriff? Who heard of such things?
Hollywood and Broadway can burn,as far as I’m concerned!
I saw the previews of blAnnie. The trailer cargo plane did not bring the trailer cargo and the islanders must have been forced to produce their own.
+1
BINGO
"The Sheriff is Near!"
This is ridiculous, considering the original Annie is white.
Ignore it, it will soon go away.
Well said. I'm borrowing that...
Just try making a black Orphan Annie with no eyes and see what happens.
The stupid people out there don’t even know who Orphan Annie is.They think it’s some new musical. It’s a wonder they didn’t rename it Little Orphan Oprah or Little Orphan Sameesha.
The movie should have been titled, “Anniequa.”
On TV some years back, there was a version of “Annie” set in the 1930’s.
Daddy Warbucks was a white guy, his attractive secretary was black and was the girlfriend of Daddy Warbucks.
It wouldn’t faze most people today, but in the 1930’s a white, famous gazillionaire would not have a black girlfiend.
Exactly. Why did they choose Samuel L Jackson for the Shaft remake? That’s raciss. Bruce Willis and Vin Diesel were available.
How ‘bout James Franco as Dr. Martin Luther King?
Little Orphan Oprah ;)
We could make a movie about Jimi Hendrix starring Ashton Kutcher as Jimi....
That second one (brothers on the wall) reminds me... Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington D.C. has Cosby’s picture on the wall and the standing rule is that whenever Cos shows up, whatever he gets is on the house... he was the only one that had that rule, until Ø was elected, and they added him to that list. I wonder if they changed that policy or took down the headshot of Cosby?
My daughters boyfriend is black. He has a niece who is 5. My daughter wanted to get her a black doll for Christmas. She said she had a hard time finding one. I never thought about it before, but I guess there arent many black dolls or toys geared to black children. I guess its because of white privilege.
______________
I have four adopted black children. when they were small 15 20 years ago, I found them both white and black dolls. Toys are Us was a good supplier and so were the online stores. This is a less than 2% black state. Most girls had at least one black doll in their collections.
