Have you heard the news? Some people really want Idris Elba to become the next James Bond!
Although Daniel Craig is still signed on for the job, many in and out of Hollywood have spoken out about the possible casting choice. Yes, we're looking at you Rush Limbaugh.
But regardless of what you've seen, heard or read, Elba himself has something to say about the speculation and it may not be what you were expecting.
"Isn't 007 supposed to handsome?" he tweeted from his car Saturday morning while rocking a beanie and a scruffy beard. "Glad you think I've got a shot! Happy New year people."
Ummm, did we miss something? We pretty much love Elba, even with his rugged look. Besides, that sense of humor doesn't hurt things either.

According to The Daily Beast, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal allegedly wrote an email to the distributor of the 007 franchise. In the letter, Pascal reportedly stated that "Idris should be the next bond."
While some have been quick to support the possible casting, others like Limbaugh have major concerns.
"Now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is," he proclaimed. "I know it's racist to probably point this out."

For the record, Elba has spoken out about the rumors before. During a Reddit AMA, the actor was asked if he would take on the highly coveted role. His response? "Yes, if it was offered to be, absolutely."
But before you get too excited, Elba had one concern about taking on the part.
"I just don't want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I'm saying?" he shared. "Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond."
Don't worry, Idris. Craig has reportedly signed on for one more installment of the popular franchise that won't be released until November 2015. Hollywood has some time to figure out the future.
He was great as Stringer Bell in The Wire.
I would want a documentary on our current ‘Resident to be played by a white woman.
bttt
Ian Fleming's original sketch of James Bond can be seen here.

I'm not completely against the idea of reboots but please. I had the same problem when they redid Battlestar Galactica.
Or even here.
>> Why not a Chinese or Eskimo Bond?
Mao Bond [2017] and Nanook Bond [2019] are already penciled in.
But before that, we’ve got to knock out episodes starring Hispanic Diego Bond and gay Percy Bond.
I just don’t see Rush playing Bond. Have we ever heard his British accent? Would he try to work Liberty the horse into the script? Would he stick with Miss Moneypenny or would he want Bo Snerdly behind the desk? I agree Rush would do great in the car chase scenes, and in the golf scenes (would have to be written in), but I fear that when the babes started coming onto him he’d ask them questions about tyranny and constitutional republics and ruin the mood.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t pay to see Rush in this role, and I do think it’s time for a deaf Bond. But I fear the action would get stuck on the obligatory scene where they play with Bond’s weapons in the lab. Rush would never leave. And when he takes a babe to his bed, will he stop mid-grope to tell us what her Select Comfort number is??
Could a white guy play Porgy or Shaft?
“That would be perfect for spy craft.”
In real life, in the movies, not so much.
If men can be women and women can be men, anybody can be anything.
Django Bond ;’)
Too Scotish.
Perhaps Daniel Craig could play Mandela in an upcoming movie since race is not important to the meat of the issues.
George Clooney would be better.
The main reason I object to these unceasing attempts to have Blacks portray characters, including historical characters who would never in a million years be Black follows:
I don’t care if it is The King of Persia, a member of Robin Hood’s merry men, a Norse God, A Greek God or demigod, ancient Scots or Irish or Dutch, they are not doing it trying to be historically accurate. They are doing it to make us believe lies. Lies which fit their political and social ideas of how they wish it was.
Blacks are portrayed in the media at a rate far, far greater than would be by chance. You will virtually never see a group of two or more in which one or more depending on the number, are Black. If you see a group of say 3 friends, you can just about count on one being Black.
If characters include Dr.s, scientists, supervisors, police chiefs, heads of government agencies and so on. It is about a 50/50 chance they will be Black. There is probably a 70/30 chance they will be Black or Female, or both.
The entire world has gone insane over Blacks. Obama was elected because he was Black. The Arabic sounding name didn’t hurt either.
I am just fed up with PC, only now it is not just political correctness, it is PC powered by a nuclear reactor.
I’d allow some poetic license to try to see if a black character could fly as a James Bond. Clearly it would not be a follow-on to other James Bond movies but a work of its own kind.
It might be advantageous in a way. This spy was “cool.” Some black people can do a very convincing “cool.”
This doesn’t apply in a situation where you’re expecting a family to be all white and lo and behold there is a black boy or girl and “hello, this is my daughter” (I don’t think so).
What we really need is a lesbian, Jamie Bond!
Absolutely
Well, Idi Amin was “The Last King of Scotland.”
Stringer Bond. The new Bond movie will be set in the urban environment of Baltimore where “The Man” is trying to bring Stringer Bond and his co-secret agent Avon Barksdale down.
Nope, they'll have to make her a White woman again, for the Black man you know. That casting would be the end of the franchise for me, bad enough Lazenby for one movie, but then a whole series with that fop Moore, but this freakin equality crap would be the end.
