Would You Buy Your 10-Year-Old Daughter a Gun for Christmas? Paul Ryan Did
Huffington ^ | 4/10/2012 | Kate Gunn

Last week a small and seemingly innocuous piece in The Times caught my eye. The short panel referred to the fact that Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's right hand man and the Republican Party nominee for Vice President of the United States, had just spent $100 on camouflage hunting clothes for his daughter, Liza, 10, to go with the rifle he bought her last Christmas.

Aghast with what I had just read I blogged about it, commenting that buying a 10 year old a rifle for Christmas was insane, and anywhere in the world that it wasn't considered to be must be a crazy place.

He’s running for president....

Which Paul Ryan will be running this time?

Mitt Romney's tough talking running mate or the RINO congressman that showed up for work after the election was lost?

Interesting that the original quoted blog has zero comments on the Huffypo site where it is posted. Libs must have overdosed on Turkey and are asleep.

“...anywhere in the world that it wasn’t considered to be must be a crazy place....”

When my homeschooled daughter was approaching her teens, I was looking for activities to help her learn to be an adult. Two activities came to mind. Both were serious. Both involved personal responsibility. Both could have tremendous rewards if done safely and properly. Both could be taught in a safe learning environment.

That is why I stepped up my daughter’s instruction in the proper use of firearms and why we as a family enrolled in scuba lessons. Happily, a child as young as 12 can get certified to dive in open water. As a result, our daughter was exposed to some sights and experiences that few of her public school age peers would ever do.

As for firearms, as with many things in life, the core issue is with the use and intent of the thing, not the thing itself. I am sure the author enjoyed the 1983 move Christmas Story featuring 9 year-old Ralphie who wants only one thing: a Red Ryder Range Shot 200 BB gun. He may have even thought the parental warning about the careful use of the gun as a cute plot device.

My own father gave me the .22 rifle that his father had given him in his youth.

Compare and contrast this to plentiful pictures of the children of Hamas members whose parents are happy to photograph them not only with machine guns, but also with grenades and faux suicide vests.

In the case of Ralphie or myself, the only use of the weapon was for target shooting and an occasional rabbit or squirrel. Never, ever for intimidation, murder, acts of jihad or terrorism.

Now, the same could be said for hammers. My father gave me some tools when I was young, and I knew how to use them. I see that some youths in St. Louis recently used a hammer to murder a random stranger who happened to be a member of the Bosnian refugee community.

In reviewing an Australian news web site about the recent terrorist attack in there, while some people were busy blaming the gun, I noticed the site had an large ad for the next Hunger Games movie. The young woman in the movie was show aiming a very large longbow, which was the “assault weapon” of its day. In the hands of a skilled person, it could be as deadly as some firearms. None of the people posting comments on the site seemed to care about the deadly longbow. They were obviously far more fixated on the terrorist’s firearm than on his Islamist ideology.

So, such people fixate on the thing, to ban the thing, but never think about the proper use of the thing, that is unless it is to give government blanket monopoly to possess and use the thing. Nobody in their right mind would think this way, but obviously many people do, including this author.

“Wow...this women is insane...

Only in a libtards warped twisted mind is a armed child solider the same thing as buying your daughter a rifle...”

But tell them about Chinese government programs teaching children to shoot at that age, and they will all in wonderment at the wisdom of the chicoms.

“Of course a liberal wouldn’t. They would buy her sex toys and condoms.

I can’t decide if that’s a joke or not. Todays liberals will do or think anything that shows they are superior progressive thinkers”

Makes you wonder what they think of the British scandal where the police stood aside as Muslim men force young girls to be sex slaves in England?

Should they groom their 10 year old daughters to be Muslim concubines and wives?

Would I? No, not at 10. My boys have both had a Henry Mini-Bolt since they were 5. 10 is way too late to start. My oldest (now 11) has a Marlin 39a now, the Henry got too small real quick. The other is 9 now and he’s almost ready for his first lever action

And yet at half that age the child is being taught what homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, and yes heterosexuals do during moments of intimacy.

Of course this is when the little deers are starting to be evaluated for just where they come down in this spectrum.

Kids don’t have a chance today, and that’s just how the evil players in all this want it. If the kids are able to defend themselves, NOW THAT’S viewed as evil.

OK, maybe the family that hunts together, stays together...Yes, that’s it, maybe two or more in the family like to hunt...hold that thought for a minute.

Of course when it takes a village, there is no need to give a child a gun or hunting clothes or anything personal that would not be pre-approved for all the children by the village committee. Otherwise the children would no longer be equal and some might exploit this decadent difference. Since condoms and sex toys are not gender appropriate for both sexes, the committee has proposed a gender change. Unfortunately, they cannot agree between the two choices, so everyone will be given all the cabbage ice cream they can eat instead. An equal and impersonal decision to be sure, but fair to all the children?

No, it takes a family to raise a child to excel and reach their full potential. And no two children are alike. Liberals will never understand how we act and think differently than them on these issues. Drives them insane.

We need a word added to the language to describe the phenomenon of someone’s attempt at sarcasm sounding like the voice of reason. In jest she makes good sense

Here in Maine, 10 year old kids, both boys and girls, go hunting with their father, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, mothers, etc.

Katie is a typical emotional liberal female....clueless about firearms and pretty much everything else.

Gee< Paul Ryan will take his daughter deer hunting. what is the big deal for the people at Huffing Puffing post. Oh wait her father should be buying her what - Air jordan Sneakers, No wait A tiara so she can be a Princess, and get picture taken with Princess Obama and his Tiara

Living in deer hunting country there a lot of young girls by getting guns at age 10 and going hunting. There also young boys whom get them. This year one of my elderly neighbors was excited when her grandson got a buck in his forst hunting season. he was out with a group of people and a fellow hunter whom happened to be female had already gotten her buck the day before at 7:15AM second day of hunting season was accompanying him. Now that is great for children.

Okay when I hunt deer or bear I use my car, it seems every year it is either a deer or a bear I hit. This year I missed a Moose with the car, but I did get my deer too. Okay when I was youngster I nailed a duck when water skiing. Boy I had a lot of explaining to do with the DNR.
