Liberals everywhere were outraged this week after Rush Limbaugh said a black man playing James Bond would be “ridiculous.” The comments were made on Tuesday in regard to leaked Sony emails that revealed that CEO Amy Paschal wanted the black actor Idris Elba to play James Bond. Rush, however, wasn’t having any of it. “James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” the conservative radio show host said. “But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland.” “That’s not who James Bond is and I know it’s racist to probably point this out,” he added. Aside from someone called James Bond corresponding to Flemings fictional character, a relevant question NOW is whether the British secret services have any black employees engaged in Bond type work. After all, the portrayal of Jesus has changed with the times. Byzantine portrayals are generally darkish skinned, black haired and black bearded while 20th Century American are usually fair haired, light skinned, no beard.
Well the “Shaft” series worked out so well didn’t it? Maybe if the new Bond is Black and lesbian about six people will flock to the theaters - yeah right!
Sean will always be the best Bond. I do not like any of the newer ones.

When stating the creator of james bond, ian fleming, as being scottish and white, that is how the character was created, and how the marketable character has been for all these years. it will never sell.
I don’t know if there are black Scots, but there are definitely what are known as black Irish. When the Spanish Armada was destroyed by a great storm, many Spanish Catholic men were washed ashore in Catholic Ireland where they stayed and produced dark haired and darker skinned children. Since Scotland was also strongly Catholic (remember Mary queen of Scots) it is entirely possible that some Spaniards ended up with Scottish women as well.
Is it true that Pee Wee Herman is going to portray Al Sharpton in an upcoming flick? Also is Eddie Murphy slated to play George Washington, in an upcoming biography of one of our founding fathers? Rush nailed it.
I think that's the point. The PC crows are the ones making an issue of it. Rush is just rubbing salt in it. It's what he does, he's a professional.

I don't agree. Fleming's creation was portrayed as a white man, from the society in which he originated. There is nothing racist about that, just the fact of the matter.
Are blacks so pitiful that they need to be placated and patronized in this manner? Please. As someone of mixed heritage, Ii is an insult to one's intelligence that Hollywood feels the need to treat blacks as children. We are all adults, let's start acting like it.

Rush and politics aside (if that is possible), it might make for an interesting Bond episode or two.

It has to be equivalent. Either Kelsey Grammar can play Nelson Mandela and a black actor can play the Scottish Bond, or they both can’t.
I personally have no problem either way, as long as it is consistent.
Tried to buy a Santa doll at Target for my 18-month old grandchild.
They had plenty of them ranging from the classic Santa with red jacket and white trim and black belt to a Santa doll with Scottish kilts and several other types.
All of them were brown faced — I could not find one Caucasian Santa so I went home empty handed.
Expect next year to see a Christmas manger scene where the Holy Family consists of Muslims complete with kaffiyeh and burqa.
I swear, I’ll never set foot in Target again.
