UPDATE: (Jazz) Police Commissioner William J. Bratton identified the slain officers as Wenjian Liu, a seven-year veteran of the force, and Rafael Ramos, who has been an officer since 2012.
UPDATE: (Jazz) As is so often the case, the readers here at Hot Air had identified the killer at least an hour before the media put it out, but they have now confirmed what you already knew.

So sad for them and their families. I hope this is the end of it, but who knows. I am glad the perp is dead or we would have to put up with the left defending his sorry self.
Ditto.
I hope it's the beginning of it! I hope the police go on strike and the city sees what it is like. I'm actually hoping deBlassio and the governor try to go to the funerals. LOL
1. Police strikes are EXTREMELY rare. Without police the state National Guard has to come in to keep law and order.
NO CITY WANTS THAT.
2. deBlassio and the governor couldn't be THAT stupid, could they?
Again, I hope the police go on strike.
I don’t care how rare a police strike it.
The mayor supported the criminals. He undermined the rule of law.
He should live with the consequences along with the idiots who voted for him.
Pretty selfish of you to want to punish EVERYONE in the city.
Why not do it the RIGHT WAY and recall him or wait until the next election?
Also, it's pretty naive of you to think that the problem starts/ends with ONE person. It's his ENTIRE PARTY, local, state AND national. Always is a "group" project.
They don’t have to strike. They simply need to work to rule. The city will be screaming in a week. You know, New Year’s Eve in Times Square.
“You got a nice event there Mayor. Would be a shame if something happened to it.”
Sure, let's wait a couple of years. Maybe we can have a half dozen or so police killed so you can be comfortable up on the upper west side.
They don’t have to strike; they can do what they do in NJ: Don;t show up in black areas.
Have you seen the neighborhood in the background of the news coverage? Not a taxpayer in sight, apparently; they don’t contribute for police protection.
What an idiotic thing to respond. What an ILLOGICAL leap. I guess you have a CRYSTAL BALL on you to see into the future. Or maybe you go to a palm reader.
Either way, there IS no predicting human behavior, except perhaps the prediction that you will respond to me with an even MORE idiotic statement. Maybe that's just a "sure thing."
I'm bored with you already.
Also, I don't live in the state of New York. Wrong AGAIN.
Merry Christmas to you and yours anyway.
That's worked so well with Obama.....
NY doesn't have a recall option.
Gosh. They’re all so hip and with it in New York City. It’s The Big Rutabaga, you know.
Go ahead, bite the Big Apple, don’t mind the maggots.
Do you really think that sooner or later more blood won’t be spilled?
Don’t be naive. A police strike will save more lives in the long run.
That’s what the Muslims want, just as in Europe, they want these areas to become “No Go Zones”, so that the Muslims can move in and take over and establish “Shariah” areas.
My guess is that you've never lived through a police strike. I have. I also lived where the police were so shackled that eventually the state national guard had to show up.
Maybe the police strike should continue so you actually know what chaos there is without police. The National Guard AIN'T the same thing.
MORE blood NEVER has to be spilled. That thinking is puerile and fruitless. Perhaps that is REALLY what YOU want because you really and actually believe that it will solve things.
I'm sure glad I don't live in your state, with thinking like that.
IIRC, he won his seat with a small turnout....something like 23% perhaps....
he should be kicked out of office...starting now...
