#52 The Bee Gees: Stayin AliveIt took a while for the first major disco movie, but Saturday Night Fever was a huge success, even if William Buckleys review was excoriating in its contempt. It took John Travolta out of TV, made him a movie star, and it took the Bee Gees to the top.
This video is from the opening credits of the film, and watch how the editing paces the music. This was a forerunner of MTV.

Hi Publius!
((((HUGS))))
I went to a new student’s home...recent transplants from Canada.
And they had a wall full of Ayn Rand.
Seriously!
SUCH a conversation I had with the dad. (and i recommended your book!)

He was quite impressed that a hippie American Christian guitar teacher could converse intelligently about Ayn Rand.
I waxed eloquently about “Anthem” and “We The Living”.
It was interesting to hear a non-American talk about our politics.
He made more sense than some natives.

Canadians can be very canny. I had a conversation 13 years ago with a blind French-Canadian from Nova Scotia on an Amtrak train, and we talked arcane points of European history over Scotch.
World War I needs a lot of whiskey to be intelligible.

#9 Fleetwood Mac: You Make Loving FunThis came from one of the best selling and most definitive albums of the Seventies. After a decade, this band finally hit its stride.

Ah, the Seventies. The decade I went back to my first love, classical music, and dated a lady who shared my love for the music so that I could avoid the whole disco experience.
