ALBANY The Cuomo administration announced Wednesday that it would ban hydraulic fracturing in New York State, ending years of uncertainty by concluding that the controversial method of extracting gas from deep underground could contaminate the states air and water and pose inestimable public-health risks...
That conclusion was delivered publicly during a year-end cabinet meeting called by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in Albany. It came amid increased calls by environmentalists to ban fracking, which uses water and chemicals to release natural gas trapped in deeply buried shale deposits.

New Yorkers certainly must know Nanny knows best... warm and cushy feelings that come from “saving the planet” are certainly worth far more than the agony, and evil unfairness of economic expansion.
The communist way: Everyone shall be equal(ly miserable and impoverished).
Southern Tier Region has the thickest chunk of the Marcellus shale, a gold mine under our feet. But the real story of commerce here is the booming heroin trade.
I wish NY would wake the hell up and get their state in order so these liberal socialist Yankees can stay the hell up there instead of moving down here and trying to make the south look like the cesspit they left.
>>Cuomo is in the pocket of Big Saudi.
If that was the case, it would be possible to change his mind. But, the truth is that he’s just another deranged Progressive who believes Hollywood, thinks Jon Stewart is a serious newsman, and believes that electric cars do not create pollution.
And you can’t fix stupid!
>>I love how democrats are called progressives. Most of their policies are the antithesis of progressive.
Read up on the term. It implies that they are “progressing” to a new kind of humanity that is free from want and selfishness and nations. (i.e. Global Communism)
They certainly aren’t “liberal” and you have to call them something. It good to let them choose the term that want, so we don’t have to play the “I’m not a liberal, I’m a Progressive” and then the “I’m not a Progressive, I’m a liberal” game. They’ve been Progressives for well over a century and all the other terms have only bee temporary.
Ending YEARS of fracking?
So, after all this time they have had hundreds of people dropping in the streets because of this, so NY finally bans it?
Gee, I am so glad the slaughter is ending....
Progressive partly refers to the slow change so no one will notice.
Jerks were not dumb.
>>Progressive partly refers to the slow change so no one will notice.
Yes it does. At the time, the fledgling communists (this was before 1917) were bomb-throwing radicals who called for change now at any cost. The American Progressives knew that this would not work in the US since the Civil War was still a first-hand memory for many people who were still alive.
So, they advocated progressive change. Their goal is the bloodless revolution (even though it isn’t any such thing as evidenced by their destruction of the black family and 50 million abortions).
Cuomo the Homo is thus banning ALL DRILLING in New Jack State.
Please. I step over the homeless and their trash heaps on my way to work in nyc every day. Now that’s a health hazard.
You really think so? He would be killing half of the flame that has warmed up the ecconomy. Boy keeps going, he will start the revolution; King George was not this bad.
Well, since there’s tons of evidence that conclusively shows such health risks, this is a good move. Oh, wait...
What an idiot.
Unions/the Mob get a cut of the casinos but get shut out of the fracking boom.
From a former NYC resident , Unions/the Mob run NY State.
NY bans forcing nasty fluids into Mother Earth’s dirt hole... imagine that.
A few years ago, during a career change in my life, a close relative really tried to get me involved in a project regarding fracking in New York.
The Marcellus shale field is named for the town of Marcellus in NY. The land is a goldmine of economic prosperity if it was allowed to go forward.
But, I knew that NY was too risky, because of political Communists like Cuomo, whom New Yorkers just reelected.
I am glad I trusted my instincts.
And one by “Executive Memo” - just like Obama.
The area is ripe for it, but I believe the problem is that it is in the watersheds that provide the drinking water to much of the state. This has been an issue for years, as NYers watched neighboring Pennsylvanians get rich leasing their land to fracking outfits.
