~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base adjacent to Tucson, Arizona. The installation is primarily an Air Combat Command (ACC) base with the 355th Fighter Wing (355 FW) as the host activity. The base is also home to Headquarters, 12th Air Force (12 AF) and the Air Force Material Command's (AFMC) 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (309 AMARG), previously known as the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC). The 355th Fighter Wing is the host unit at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, however, other units also call D-M home. Twelfth Air Force, the 563rd Rescue Group and The Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) are all based out of D-M. After the execution of Operation Enduring Freedom, eight A-10s from the 355th Wing were called to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan to fly close air support missions supporting multinational ground forces.
In September 2002, the 48th, 55th, and the 79th Rescue Squadrons (RQS) transferred under control of the 355th Wing, equipped with HC-130 aircraft and HH-60 helicopters. At the same time, the 41st and 43 Electronic Combat Squadrons were realigned under the control of the 55th Electronic Combat Group (55 ECG). While personnel and aircraft remained on Davis-Monthan AFB operational control of the 55 ECG was assumed by the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Another major wing realignment occurred on 1 October 2003 with the activation of the 563 Rescue Group on Davis-Monthan AFB. Control of the 48th, 55th, and 79th Rescue Squadrons (RQS) was passed to the new group with the 23rd Wing assuming operational command of the unit. Learn More About Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Here! I was working out of Tidewater Virginia when the Virginia Air National Guard went from the F-106 to a newer fighter.
There was a good article in the “Virginian-Pilot” about the change over.
I thought it was interesting that the pilots did not want to give up the Delta Darts. One of them said it was “the Cadillac of fighter planes”. Very pleasant to fly.

A Ukrainian Christmas
The people of Ukraine include many wonderful elements in their observance of Christmas. Sometimes wisps of hay are placed on the dinner table as a reminder of the Bethlehem manger. Another portion of their celebration echoes the events of the night when the Savior entered the world. A Christmas prayer is offered and then the father in the household offers the greeting, Christ is born! The family then responds, Let us glorify Him!
These words draw my mind to the appearance of the angels in the sky over Bethlehem on the night Christ was born. The angel of the Lord declared, For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). The heavenly host responded, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men! (v.14).
Those twin messages give such depth of meaning to this wonderful time of year. The Savior has come bringing forgiveness and hopeand He is deserving of all the worship we can give Him.
May all who know the wonder of His gift of eternal life join with the voices of that angelic host declaring, Glory to God in the highest!
With thangelic hosts proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King! Wesley
The spectacular glory of Gods love for us was revealed in the coming of Jesus.
Lukes telling of the birth of Christ includes the shepherds, who lived apart from society in their lowly occupation, and the angels, who announced to those shepherds the arrival of the Messiah (vv.9-14). From the humble to the heavenly, the contrast of shepherds and angels pictures the journey of the Son who came from the highest place to be the Lamb of God.
