Chippewa Falls, WI Dashcam video has been released that shows the disturbing last moments of a mans life as hes detained by a Chippewa Falls police officer on the way to the hospital.
29-year-old Casey Kressin died after suffering a severe asthma attack when the vehicle that was rushing him to the hospital was pulled over by a Chippewa Falls police officer.
After they were stopped, Kressins girlfriend immediately starts to beg the officer to take him to the hospital. The officer instead calls for an ambulance.
The couple was just 3 miles from the hospital when they were stopped. It took over 6 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.
During the stop, the officer callously listens to the begging couples pleas for help as Kressin slips further away. Hes going to die! He cant breathe! screams Kressins girlfriend. We can hear Kressin begging for help as he falls to the ground, starving for air, I cant breathe ..I cant breathe.
The officer just stares at the couple, telling them to wait for the ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrives, it takes another 2 and 1/2 minutes before Kressin begins his journey to the hospital; sadly too much time had passed. Police say Kressin became unresponsive at that time and was pronounced dead at Saint Josephs Hospital.
Chippewa Falls Chief Wendy Stelter says she stands behind the officers who responded, saying that Kressins girlfriend should not have been allowed to drive the rest of the way because she was hysterical.
However, she was only hysterical because her boyfriend was dying and being kept from life saving treatment that could have saved his life.

Twenty years ago I would of laughed at that. Not now.
“Had the man still been in the vehicle, had the driver been in a condition where they could drive and drive safely, then very likely the officer could have escorted them to the hospital following traffic laws,” says Chippewa Falls Police Chief Wendy Stelter. “In this case everyone was out of the vehicle, the driver was upset and it’s going to be a safety concern to put her back in the drivers seat.”
She is still a moron as is her responding officer. I don’t know how either of them can live with what they did! WTF is wrong with putting the guy in the squad car a driving him to the hospital with lights and siren? The both need to be terminated, and sued by the dead guy’s family. They are murderers!
I was in that situation driving a neighbor to hospital emergency room.
Police pulled me over. I told the officer what was going on. He wanted me to wait. I told him sorry, I’ll see you at the hospital and drove on.
The officer was furious when we got there, berating me as I was helping my neighbor get out of the car and into the emergency room.
You have to follow rules in your job and so do the police. What if you are a Air Traffic Controller and decide to go against the rules?
We don't live in a perfect world and for better or worse most employers worry about liability. I don't know what the policy is at the PD in this post, but the thing I wondered about is why the officer didn't perform any life-saving techniques if warranted until aid arrived.
But policy does vary. For example, Seattle PD allows officers to transport a sick or injured person if in the opinion of the officer transport will save the person's life AND medical transport is unavailable. Would an officer going against the flow be sub-human as some of the puerile clowns on this thread claim?
I know of a sheriff's 911 dispatch center that prohibited call-takers after dispatching an aid car to give any pre-arrival instructions or life saving techniques (CPR, etc.) until certified by the state. Is that person sub-human as some of the puerile clowns on this thread claim?
In an incident that happened at this center, imagine the call-taker's human helpless feelings they were going through who knew CPR when a woman called that her boy-friend next to her had a heart attack and was turning blue. A deputy and aid car were dispatched - the fire station was nearby, but adding to incident the mail box was placed on the wrong street adding precious minutes until the house was located. By then he was dead.
Grow up kids!

I have a son with asthma bad enough to have been hospitalized with oxygen level in 70s....critical level is 75% O2 saturation
And frankly it was largely my fault having him out working in the cold as he complained of tightness and then putting him in steam shower at home
He was 10 and it was 4 years ago.....Christmas eve
One of biggest lessons I ever learned.....if they complain its tight they aren’t just whining and steam is bad for asthma unless its saturated with albuterol
He got discharged at midnight Christmas eve after two days and God bless Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital
And I think this cop was the C-word and should be fired and sued
But....I’m not sure if the poor fellow died in less than 6 minutes that 3 minutes would have saved him
Worth a shot of course....but when asthma goes so far and close to breathing cessation even incubation and respirator may be too late or ineffective
Asthma can be a beast in worst cases
Hospitals typically dump steroids in you and an albuterol mask and maybe Heliox..... a thinner oxygenated forced air mix which may be easier to breath
They may incubate....give B-agonists.....intravenous buterols......oral anesthetics....epinephrine
Life threatening asthma is a kitchen sink emergency...they try all their tricks but they simply may not work...the further it goes the harder to come back unless your body by the grace of God does it for you
I have breathing issues non asthmatic.....it is not fun
Bad cop
That could have been a liability issue, dontcha know?
I’m very glad that your son survived. Asthma control is literally a matter of life and death.
Just out of curiosity to all the “ just keep driving “ folks.
It’s 3 miles. At 60 mph THATS a minimum 3 minutes.
City or highway?
Do you follow the speed limit and lights signals etc, or are you driving all out, with flashing lights, honking horn, weaving in and out of traffic?
Did the officer pull them over because he thought their driving was erratic and a risk to other drivers?
The ambulance has exactly the same drugs and equipment that we in the ER would use on someone crashing from asthma.
3 miles in city traffic can easily take more then 6 minutes. Even if you drive like a maniac and put other lives at risk, something the officer has to consider.
You are correct that the ambulance has ALL THE DRUGS AND EQUIPMENT we would use in the ER to treat that problem.
If you like your dog, you can keep your dog.
In this case, I don’t think it matters. They are going to get sued.
Actually the cheap non prescription inhalers, used Epinephrine (Adrenalin, the old “Primatene” inhaler. Bad drug. adrenaline has lots of nasty side effects ( hypertension, stroke, tachycardia and other arrythmias, Myocardal infarction)
Well...that’s just the point. When the ordinary law abiding citizen hears this “.....sumbags all day long,” never in their wildest dreams do they think the police are really talking about “them” and every other ‘citizen’ they come in contact with.
Something similar happened to me. Years ago, a car battery blew up in my face. I was at home alone, at my work shed. I couldnt see anything but I made it to the house, by time I got there, my eyes and face was hurting so bad that I laid down under the water spigot and poured water on my face. After a while I went inside and by time I got there, I was burning real bad again, so I put my head in the kitchen sink and poured more water. I knew I had to have help, thjis was before the days of 9-11, but my phone had some pre set call numbers,I found my friend Davids button.
I managed to get thje right button pushed and somehow, he happened to be close enough to hear the phone, incidentally, this was also before cell phones. Anyway, he rushed over, scooped me up and started rushing me to the hospital Going thru Marshville NC, we got pulled over.
David tried explaing to the cop what was going on, the cop kept us there for 30 minutes. We were there so long that the medical man in the factory we were stopped in front of, found out somehow about me, and came out there with his medical bag and helped me all he could. Finally, the cop called an ambulance to come get me.
45 minutes after being pulled over, I finally made the last 4 miles to the hospital. They flushed my eyes for about 2 hours and I went home.
Next day I walked into the Marshville police station and there sat the chief of police at his desk. He looked up and saw me, my face burned and red, both eyes blood red, and he said tome, Goddamn, I hope you aint as mad with me as your wife was yesterday!
Yeah, but in this case it was only 3 miles. Not enough time to do it.
When they see your final destination, their attitude will change - at least, enough...
BANG! BANGBANGBANGBANGBANG! Stop or I’ll shoot!
That’s the only thing that will deter this kind of crap. A few of these kind of uniformed thugs need to NOT make it home after their shift.
How many minutes did she waste driving before that? EMTs are trained to do the same as an ER to save lives. In fact, I have saved lives, so I do know something about it.
