I have a son with asthma bad enough to have been hospitalized with oxygen level in 70s....critical level is 75% O2 saturation

And frankly it was largely my fault having him out working in the cold as he complained of tightness and then putting him in steam shower at home

He was 10 and it was 4 years ago.....Christmas eve

One of biggest lessons I ever learned.....if they complain its tight they aren’t just whining and steam is bad for asthma unless its saturated with albuterol

He got discharged at midnight Christmas eve after two days and God bless Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital

And I think this cop was the C-word and should be fired and sued

But....I’m not sure if the poor fellow died in less than 6 minutes that 3 minutes would have saved him

Worth a shot of course....but when asthma goes so far and close to breathing cessation even incubation and respirator may be too late or ineffective

Asthma can be a beast in worst cases

Hospitals typically dump steroids in you and an albuterol mask and maybe Heliox..... a thinner oxygenated forced air mix which may be easier to breath

They may incubate....give B-agonists.....intravenous buterols......oral anesthetics....epinephrine

Life threatening asthma is a kitchen sink emergency...they try all their tricks but they simply may not work...the further it goes the harder to come back unless your body by the grace of God does it for you

I have breathing issues non asthmatic.....it is not fun

Bad cop

I’m very glad that your son survived. Asthma control is literally a matter of life and death.

“Life threatening asthma is a kitchen sink emergency...”

I remember being given big shots of adrenaline at the Fort Meyer clinic when I had a bad asthma as a kid. I’d go from barely able to catch a breath to feeling like superman in about 10 seconds.

Much as I love Virginia it didn’t love me in spring and fall when the pollen load was heavy.
