Millennials are increasingly more pro-life and supportive of restrictions on abortion than their parents' generation, according to polling data taken over the last decade, and pro-life leader credit medical technology for this growing trend.
Lila Rose, president of the pro-life group Live Action, told The Christian Post in a recent interview that advances in ultrasound technology is just one of the many reasons why teenagers and people in their 20s are joining the movement.
"There's a window into the womb with ultrasound. Just having the look into the womb you can see, even in the first trimester, the early development of the child you can see the humanity of the child," Rose said. "Now that we have that imagery and it's more prevalent, people are having that personal encounter with the child, so it's easier to recognize their human rights."
She continued: "And there are stories that have emerged about how abortion doesn't help women, but it actually hurts them. This has been shared in the testimonies of women who've spoken out against it afterwards. And there's the emergence of evidence about the abuses and the illegal practices at Planned Parenthood that are coming more to light.
"All of these factors are inspiring to younger people who see it as a human rights abuse and an attack against women and children, and they want to join the movement," Rose added.
Because so many millions of their generation are missing on account of abortion.
they grew up living with their parents’ stupidity might be a good place to start.
Because they realize how close they came to not being here?
Actually, I don’t know how/why. I do have some trouble in taking selected occurrences and snippets of data and translating that into a generational norm, especially when it implies these peoples’ mores are the result of their parents’ views.
Personally, I never believed nor held the belief that abortion was an elective choice of convenience. My wife did not either and we did not instill the belief it was a convenience.
To my mind, whatever actual statistics are on abortion are the result of constant meddling, manipulation and mind altering the liberals of this country have so engaged on our young.
I know a young man who is an only child, but should have two siblings, who were aborted, as they were “inconvenient”. I often wonder, when his Mom reaches the age where she becomes “inconvenient”, if he will tell her that if he had the help of two siblings, perhaps they would be able to support her, but alone, he cannot.
Maybe because they have seen the destruction killing babies have done.
There is a lot more information available to the general public about the harm abortion (as well as contraception) can wreak upon a woman’s body.
I think this generation wants none of that harm.
They also see the grief in their friends who did have abortions and possibly the inability of those friends to bear children later in life. Mighty powerful influence in my opinion.
Probably had their parents stupidity forced on them too. I have always been prolife. Had a friend in high school whose parents forced her to have an abortion. Caused untold problems in her life. She is now very prolife.
Millenials are an odd bunch.. pro-homo but increasingly pro-life. Seems like the media has figured out how to edit and spin homos as gentle and inoffensive, but technology shows the nastiness of abortion.. they can’t glamorize genicide of the unborn.
Maybe because they don’t have the disdain for black babies that their liberal parents do.
My advice to the pro-choice crowd is simple: Stay healthy. The "care" that awaits isn't going to be about your choices.
Two sides of the same coin, I’ve always thought.
There was a piece on TV, years ago, that showed illegal immigrants being smuggled into Mexico, from the U.S. - they were senior citizens, escaping mandatory euthanasia. It seemed far fetched, at the time . . .
Thanks for your reply.
In America, all our constitutional protections rest on the Founders' premise that all human beings are "endowed by their Creator" with rights to both life and the liberty to "pursue happiness." That is the sole reason those rights are deemed unalienable--because they are derived, not from another human being, not from a government, not even from the mother, but from God.
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson
That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life, liberty, and laws to protect them.
Since the 1970's, technological advances have enabled us to observe God's tiniest creations in the womb. We no longer have an excuse for imagining that these are blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." They are living babies who will have life and liberty if we do not "destroy" them.
At the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC on February 3, 1994, Mother Teresa stated: And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"
Indeed, if we cannot protect the life and liberty of these smallest versions of ourselves, even with their so-called "imperfections," then Mother Teresa's words take on significant meaning.
Probably because they’re thanking God that they were lucky enough to dodge the abortion bullet that has claimed the lives of 40~50 million souls over the last 40+ years.
It would be interesting to redo that graph but keep it by the same birth year range so you can see how much opinions are changing as people age rather than merely having new people in each age group.
Sadly, you’re right. I know a lot of friends or acquaintances who got their impressions from shows like Will & Grace and simply just don’t care to fight it and appear “mean”.
Lot of people also tend to grossly overestimate the percentage of the population that is homosexual.
