The House narrowly approved a vital spending bill Thursday night despite deep misgivings among liberals and conservatives alike, sending the measure to the Senate as a funding deadline looms.
The bill passed on a 219-206 vote, following an intense lobbying effort by House Republican leaders and the White House.
Current government funding technically runs out at midnight Thursday, and lawmakers still are expected to move a stopgap measure to buy time as the Senate considers the main $1.1 trillion spending package. That debate could last through the weekend and potentially into Monday.
Passage in the House followed hours of urgent appeals from an unlikely alliance: President Obama and House GOP leadership.
Obama and Vice President Biden worked the phones to sway Democratic lawmakers. White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough also met on the Hill with the Democratic caucus. Despite sources inside the meeting initially saying he did little to persuade lawmakers, a rift emerged in the Democratic leadership late Thursday. As House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi continued to oppose the bill, her deputy, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., urged passage.
Meanwhile, House GOP leaders did what they could to sway conservative members who, for different reasons, were opposed to the package.
In the end, 67 Republicans defected, but 57 Democrats voted for it.

I really am worried. I mean they posted the same things non stop, daily for years. And suddenly, after this inexcusable action by the objects of their affection, they disappear in the night ... vanished without a trace.
Mighty strange if you ask me. Some vile sorcery afoot methinks. I mean these were people who put their hearts and souls...their very credibility on the line to ensure we had people in DC advancing conservatism. they told us so.
And then this happens.
I dunno SJB, I think something is very wrong with this picture. there must be some common denominator tying this inexplicable disappearance together...BUT WHAT?!?!?!?
” I really am worried. I mean they posted the same things non stop, daily for years. And suddenly, after this inexcusable action by the objects of their affection, they disappear in the night ... vanished without a trace.”
Their mission was accomplished.
dead on the money ‘tick.
I was happy to my man on this list too!...Connaway.
They’re frauds. I believe the republicans use the democrats just as much as the democrats use them. I’m hoping enough of us have caught on that it won’t work anymore. We should all have pretty good eyesight after what just happened.
Not yet, budget has to clear Elizabeth Warren haha..
I’d like to think you’re right, but look what just happened.
The Republicans just won back the majority with this severely flawed leadership. That tells that leadership that they can do any damned thing they want, and still win.
Short of simply refusing to ever vote for a Republican again, what can we do?
This game is rigged. We all know it. And we all know we’re never going to end this B. S. treachery.
At least not the way we’ve been approaching it.
I have supported, then objected to third parties. I’m supporting them again.
Without a third party, we’ll never change Washington. That much is abundantly clear.
” Without a third party, well never change Washington. That much is abundantly clear.”
Too late for this.
It wouldn’t happen overnight. We would lost for several cycles. In the end, we would wind up with a fairly decent party.
What we are doing isn’t working. If you’ve got a better idea, I’m game.
I haven’t got any kind of game. It is too late. If amnesty and Obamacare are fully funded, within 2 years, our national debt will exceed....probably 24 trillion.
Unemployment will necessarily double for U.S.citizens. I am no genius, but I know macro-econ cold! No time.
Can we fight back? Sure, we must.
“Without a third party, well never change Washington. That much is abundantly clear.”
Washington will never change with or without a third party. The uniparty is never, ever going to tolerate the rise of an outside power that challenges its hegemony. To put it bluntly, there simply is no political solution at the Federal level. The uniparty is very good at making sure it stays in power.
Ironically, that’s actually kind of liberating. Once you realize that there is no point in bothering with politics at the federal level, all sorts of other alternatives outside traditional politics open up. Ultimately, we all are the ones who decide whether or not we’re free.
“What we are doing isnt working. If youve got a better idea, Im game.”
Actually, I do. it boils down to freeing your mind and your ass will follow.
Ultimately, we have to accept the fact that most people like the security of being told what to do and when to do it. Probably a huge majority. So once you accept that most people really don’t want to be free, you quit focusing on macro solutions and big ideas to free people who really don’t want it in the first place and would resent the freedom if they had it.
A better idea is to focus on “what will make me amd the people I care about freer?” Once you look at things from that vantage point, you start noticing the other people, the few, who thirst for freedom and have some good and practical ideas. And you also come up with your own ideas that are relevant to your own situation.
I agree that the illegal immigration screw-job is tantamount to a knife through the vital organs of our nation.
There won’t be a corner of this nation that is safe in twenty years, perhaps as little as ten.
I appreciate the posts. I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but the talk of us doing things that will make us free at the local level kind of leaves me flat.
Perhaps a person can purchase and live off the land, but there will still be taxes to pay. And if the EPA gets it’s way, you may not own that land very long.
Perhaps I’d understand your take on this better if you would be a bit more specific.
Less than ten, for sure.
REAL cost of Obamacare = 1 trillion yr.(incl. lost full timers)
REAL costs of amnesty = 1 trillion yr.
This is on top of CURRENT debt.
Game over.
Well, I can’t argue with that. I’ve been saying much the same thing for twenty years.
I just find it hard to accept it and give up on the nation. Lord knows I’m trying.
Being a realist doesn’t mean I won’t fight these evil people. But it will take 5-10 million to go as far as civil disobedience to make a difference.
But then they just declare martial law anyway. I don’t see what that buys you.
They aren’t stupid enough to do that.
By rallies and protests, NOT thuggery.
I’d like to see every white person in the country stay home for a month. I’ve had people get really angry on this idea. I’m thinking it would wake some folks up.
We’re the majority in this nation. It doesn’t run without us.
Let revenues in Washington, D. C. flat-line for a month.
Let businesses flat-line for a month.
If we got 20 million people back to Washington, D. C., it would be described as 200 thousand by the media.
