Detroit — A widespread power outage Tuesday has caused evacuations of buildings throughout the downtown, including Joe Louis Arena, Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the Detroit Institute of Arts and some buildings at Wayne State University. Most of Detroit's municipal power grid has gone down, cutting electricity to public buildings in the city, officials have said.
Police, fire, school, and jail buildings have lost power and traffic lights aren't working, a city spokesperson said.
Some people are trapped in elevators throughout Detroit, according to Detroit Fire Chief Jack Wiley, and fire crews are working to free them.
Affected buildings included Detroit Institute of Arts, Wayne State, and the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, which people evacuated by stairwells, the Detroit Free Press reports.

I was just thinking if it were anywhere else, I would think it's terrorism. But really, what self-respecting terrorist would go after the armpit of America? Too degrading.

Well there are a lot of Muslims running around in Michigan. Maybe just a practice run. I feel sorry for the elderly and those unable to defend themselves. The wolves will be running tonight.

Anyone not at work? Is Shepard Smith on FNC hyperventilating yet?
I was in Detroit a couple of Friday nights ago for a major outdoor public event, and all the roads around the event were torn up by "DET" with crews doing electrical work in the trenches and it made getting to and parking at the event a chore.
My guess? It is potentially related to these upgrades / corrections to the deficiencies in the existing system...
