Not the first time hes taken the wrong side of a shooting transformed in haste into a Teachable Moment about race relations in America. Once the death of Michael Brown was reduced to a microcosm of police discrimination against young black men, Darren Wilson had to be guilty or else that discrimination didnt exist. The retreat to identity was the natural way to process an incident that was supposed to be simple but became too complex for easy narratives.
No one told Barkley, though.
The true story came out from the grand jury testimony, Barkley said, adding that he was made aware of key forensic evidence, and several black witnesses that supported Officer Darren Wilsons story He continued, I cant believe anything I hear on television anymore. And, thats why I dont like talking about race issues with the media anymore, because they (the media) love this stuff, and lead people to jump to conclusions. The media shouldnt do that. They never do that when black people kill each other.
He also called those who rioted after the decision was announced scumbags, and said There is no excuse for people to be out there burning down peoples businesses, burning down police cars.
[W]e have to be really careful with the cops, because if it wasnt for the cops we would be living in the Wild, Wild West in our neighborhoods, he said. We cant pick out certain incidentals that dont go our way and act like the cops are all bad . Do you know how bad some of these neighborhoods would be if it wasnt for the cops?
And thats how the great lets get Charles Barkley fired from TNT movement of 2015 got its start. As for what he says about the grand jury testimony, read this AP account from Friday or this NYT story from yesterday if you havent yet about how sharply the eyewitnesses differed on key details, like whether Brown was charging at Wilson or staggering forward to surrender. Sean Davis is right: The fact that prosecutors, who usually strain to convince the GJ that a crime was committed, took pains to highlight those contradictions is proof enough that they didnt want to take this case to trial. They knew that Wilsons defense team would destroy the states case by emphasizing those contradictions themselves. Rather than let that play out over the course of another year or two while Ferguson waited nervously for the inevitable acquittal, the D.A. decided to get it over with now.
The other reason to follow those links and read those stories is because, a la Barkley, they put the lie to the idea that views of what happened were mainly a matter of racial identity even for the people closest to it. Imagine the social pressure felt by the eyewitnesses, many of them black, to confirm the hands up, dont shoot version of the shooting, knowing that Wilsons life was already in danger from people enraged by it and that theirs could be too. Wilson certainly had police protection; the eyewitnesses almost certainly didnt. They told the truth anyway. That was courageous.

Step 1 in the learning process. Don't believe anything you see or hear on television.
That thread got pulled.
Is this about Your son?
If so, why is the cop still alive?
It isn’t about my son, but it is that LTC’s son and he got a law passed in Wisconsin that the police don’t investigate their own killings.
Bump
“It isnt about my son, but it is that LTCs son and he got a law passed in Wisconsin that the police dont investigate their own killings.”
OK. But same question though. If it were my son their would be retrabution...
Thank you Sir Charles!
If only Obama had said that.
But Obama, in his speech after the verdict was announced, only said, "We have to respect the process."
In other words, implying it was a miscarriage of justice.
“Charles Barkley: Lets face it, the Ferguson grand jury got it right”
He’s preaching to the choir.
The looting thugs, the rioters, the marxist agitators, the race hustlers, etc, just dont give a damn that theyre in the wrong.
Ferguson is as good as any reason for them to act up.
Sir Charles has got it right! A tribute to pre-politically correct days!
Race traitor!!!
I just had to say it once, since I’ve been accused of that so many times.
I wonder if those that disagree with him will criticize the fact that he is married to a white woman? I am glad he spoke out on this issue!!
Charles, you are controversial, but when you speak, you do have good things to say. God bless you...
I read that the young man was talking to the GJ.
Contrary to the prior million articles written about this non-event, we finally hear a voice of common sense. Barkley is the type of critical thinker lacking among politicians. Too bad that he is probably too smart to run for office.
I would pay 'good money' to watch the results of someone calling Barkley an Uncle Tom to his face.
BTW. Thanks to Sir Charles for speaking some common sense. He is not cowered by the Politically Correct Anarchist/Commie Mafia like our politicians and media outlets are.
Those bastards are intent on destroying Black Americans by pretending to support them. The KKK was never as great a threat as these SOBs are.
And that’s why he is known as “Sir Charles”...
The circumstances described here seem especially egregious
