The US Army plans to deploy about 150 tanks and armoured vehicles to NATO countries next year and some of the heavy armour may be stationed in Eastern Europe, a top American general said on Tuesday.
The move is part of a US effort dubbed Operaton Atlantic Resolve in the Baltic states and Poland to reassure allies anxious about a 'resurgent Russia', with American troops deploying for several months at a time to conduct joint exercises.
Nearly 50 armoured vehicles are already in place and another 100 M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles will be "pre-positioned" in Germany and possibly elsewhere for the US troops conducting drills with NATO partners, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges said in a phone interview from Estonia.

What is really needed is to deploy at least 150 tanks and a couple of divisions at the MEXICAN border or else there won’t BE an America to protect the euros and their sorry butts.
“Didnt we just spend about a gazzilion dollars a few years ago to bring them all back to the states?”
Yeah, first thing that came to my mind. Hopefully Germany is paying the freight bills.
We have tons of them still sitting in storage stateside and in the Middle East.
In looking at the title. US Tanks deployed on the border with Russia. Boy I hope they do not sink!
It was the USSR not Russia that threatened our existence. We dominated world events not them (see collapse of the USSR). Putin is not trying to recreate that failed commie state. Nominally, He is trying to recreate Imperial Russia but mostly he is trying to hold onto power and keep his $67 billion.
I would be interested in how you foresee Putin putting us out of existence. I can see it happening, just curious if we see it the same way.
What next ? Well historically Europeans have caused Two World wars and a global nuclear cold war. So we can expect their cities will stand in ruin again with millions of dead Europeans. That is what they are best at.
But the Poles might _use_ them.
You didn’t think this was about actual defense, did you?
Yea, people think that we can make a D-Day type attack after 20 years of neglect. Well, Dunkirk happened right after 21 years of neglect by England and France.
What scares me is that the price for miscalculation is loss of our cities this time, not a hasty retreat to safe territory.
Russia is ON THE MOVE again, but I have yet to hear the WAR DRUM CROWD on this site ever mention ANYTHING about building up our military - even Jimmy Carter knew we needed to build up, but not people here, not at all.
Did I say the Russian military was the most powerful?
Still waiting for that answer on the carriers.
I don’t get it. Who has not understood since the breakup of the Soviet Union that the neighboring countries would always remain within Russia’s circle of influence and ultimately be claimed again as they were in the 20th century. For the US with all it’s own problems to waste it’s resources and risk a major conflict seems like a naive and reckless course. But then I believe these events are orchestrated from a Hegelian dialect that seeks to ultimately weaken and merge America into a globalist world government/ confederation. Think Brezinski’s the Grand Chessboard.
The USSR was the Russian empire, the one that colonel Putin is trying to reassemble, and if you remember the cold War, it was brutal, dangerous and nasty, and we did not dominate the Russian empire, for one thing how do you think they built it?
The 1970s was also big gains for them, huge gains as we showed the weakness that you call for, the “submission”.
LOL, Putin deserves these countries, cute.
**”What is going on with the Navy is even worse. Tell me genius, how many of our carriers are deployed at this time?”**
You think the Russian Navy is superior to ours and NATO?
How many carriers does Russia have again?
One, built by Ukraine, and they never leave port without a tug boat in case it breaks down.
“In December 1991, she sailed from the Black Sea to join the Northern Fleet. Only from 1993 on did she receive aircraft.”
“In December 1991, she sailed from the Black Sea to join the Northern Fleet. Only from 1993 on did she receive aircraft”
“At the end of 1997 she remained immobilized in a Northern Fleet shipyard, awaiting funding for major repairs, which were halted when they were only 20% complete. The overhaul was completed in July 1998, and the ship returned to active service in the Northern fleet on 3 November 1998. “
“Kuznetsov apparently remained in port for about two years before preparing for another Mediterranean deployment scheduled for the winter of 20002001. This deployment was cancelled due to the loss of the nuclear-powered submarine Kursk.”
“In late 2003 and early 2004, Kuznetsov went to sea for inspection and trials. During the 2005 exercise, one of her Su-33 fighters was involved in an accident, and fell from the carrier into the Atlantic Ocean.”
“On 27 September 2006 it was announced that Admiral Kuznetsov will return to service in the Northern Fleet by the end of the year. The ship will undergo another modernization refit, in an attempt to correct some of her many technical issues.”
“On 5 December 2008 the aircraft carrier and several other vessels left Severomorsk heading for the Atlantic on a tour which was announced would be lasting several months and which would include combat training including joint drills with Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and visits to several ports in the Mediterranean. On this tour while the Admiral Kuznetsov anchored off Turkey on 7 January 2009 a small fire broke out on the ship. One crew member was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. The fire was caused by a short-circuit.
On 16 February 2009, Admiral Kuznetsov, along with other Russian naval vessels was involved in a large oil spill while she refuelled off the south coast of Ireland.”
“Although financial and technical problems have resulted in limited operations for the ship, it is expected that Admiral Kuznetsov will remain in active duty until at least 2030.”
Those who don’t learn from history.....
The US did this same downsizing in the lead up to WWII.
Weakness invites agression. We are perceived as weak.
Theory? Look at the reality on the ground. Putin has attacked Ukraine and we did what? Sanctions! And then the line was redrawn. It does not take much of a threat to cower Obama and his buddies in Europe.
Seriously does anyone think Putin is attacking Munich? As you keep saying he doesn’t have the military for it. Do you think there is going to be some all out conflagration East versus West old school Tom Clancy stuff? Putin will continue to nibble his way through small defenseless countries and NATO will watch it happen.
How many carriers deployed? Simple question.
So you think Obama is going to authorize the use of force in direct conflict with Russia?
Looks like they’re posting those numbers again, LOL. As if the Polish Calvary is going to stop MODERNIZED Russian Tanks with their spears.
This won’t end well.
If Russia attacks NATO then I expect NATO to deal with that threat.
They were retired. They require more maintenance (e.g. tritium replacement) and they still do some blast damage.
