The US Army plans to deploy about 150 tanks and armoured vehicles to NATO countries next year and some of the heavy armour may be stationed in Eastern Europe, a top American general said on Tuesday.
The move is part of a US effort dubbed Operaton Atlantic Resolve in the Baltic states and Poland to reassure allies anxious about a 'resurgent Russia', with American troops deploying for several months at a time to conduct joint exercises.
Nearly 50 armoured vehicles are already in place and another 100 M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles will be "pre-positioned" in Germany and possibly elsewhere for the US troops conducting drills with NATO partners, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges said in a phone interview from Estonia.

A 19k / political officer.
LOL, outdated? That is the current situation.
A Russian plant would be trying to convince Americans of a mythical Russian military that is entirely too huge and vast and all powerful for the little ole countries of the United States, Great Britain, France, Poland and the other two dozen NATO powers to restrain Russia from conquering them and defeating them on the battle field.
You should start a thread on reducing the American military budget in the face of Russian aggression.
Speed bump, bad move, can’t end well.
Interesting squib this week... Finland is closely watching Russian ambitions. Russia invaded Finland once before. It didn’t end well for the Russians but it didn’t turn out so well for the Finns either.
Things are not safe. The bear is on the prowl and the oil price situation will wound him and make him even more testy.
Watch a few Russian videos... the people are more nationalistic and reckless drunks than ever before from what I see. Vlad is going to have to give them something to do to stay on seat.
I’ll put M1A2s against anything Vladimir can field armor wise. That is acknowledging that Russian tanks have evolved over the 6ears.
Lots of information available on what Russia is up to. I suggest you do some reading.
I have many friends who are active and retired military. I think I’ll take their word over yours.
What obama has done to our military is criminal.
If it works for Nippon, it should work elsewhere.
Putin could see this as a challenge and moves to up the ante, then what?
Actually, the Russian armored units are scattered across the country and it would take a massive effort to mobilize and move those forces into position, which would clearly be seen by our satellites. Also, most of the Russian superiority in numbers has been mitigated by the fact that they've moved thousands of armored vehicles into storage facilities. In fact, I read a recent article that said for the first time since the 50s, there's actually more NATO tanks than there are Russian!
I don’t like what he is doing to our military, but I also dislike the way you have attempted to work it into your pro Russian propaganda.
Trying to portray NATO as Obama, and our military as weak and ineffective, is ridiculous and even obscene.
You are trying to convince us of two things, that the American military is no match for the Russian military, and that NATO consists solely of this inferior American military that you are trying to convince us of.
That is just incredible.
While an American war effort on the eastern front and a new battle of Kursk sounds really fun, I question why it’s an American duty to defend the foreign policy of the EU to expand and add member states. If they want to do that, let the Germans, Poles, Danes, Spanish and Czechs pay for the whole thing and be 100% of the forces. They contribute a pittance financially, and barely enough troops do ensure their officers get joint command positions.
The EU is like a girlfriend who picks a fight with the Hells Angels at the next table and then looks at you and says “do something!”.
Of course, this means I’m a Kremlin spy.
It isn’t NATO’s mission to antagonize and provoke superpowers for no good reason.
I'll take that point, but what NATO is doing will very likely be seen as provocative by Putin who may consider a response. Has that scenario been gamed-out by NATO?
I’ve lost track, did we ever deploy tactical nukes with, or without, neutron warheads? If we did do we still have the capability to do so?
I always thought they were the perfect capitalist tool. Kills armies but leaves property intact.
Who do we plan to borrow the tanks from?
I'm not portraying NATO has obama. I haven't mentioned nato.
I'm simply telling you that as obama guts what's left of our military, russia is spending billions updating their military cabablilites.
You have no idea what is going on in military circles and I'm not going to disclose that information over a public forum.
Again, your information is flawed and outdated.
LOL, it is NATO’s mission to always be prepared to protect itself, and having the defensive weapons and men stationed within it’s own borders, is at the top of that list of defensive measures.
Especially when Russia is invading neighbors.
It aint the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog! Sorry for going bumper sticker on you but who has the willingness, ruthlessness, and strategic sense to actually employ their forces?
You can appreciate Putin’s strategery without approving of Putin. Plus, when you compare him to a vacillating whining immoral regulating gun grabbing anti carbon pro greenie western leader he appears to be VLAD!
You responded to my one sentence post on NATO, on a thread about NATO.
So far you keep hinting that you know secrets that you cannot post on a public forum, yet for some reason you can’t post any facts to challenge for instance, the current information in post 15.
You instead do the ultimate internet kids game, claiming that you are too privy to military secrets to even find the words to describe the facts of this super Russian military that you claim that the American military (and NATO) is no match for, without revealing military secrets.
