'Must Not Stand': Nation Reacts to Missouri Grand Jury Decision

People across the country reacted sharply to the decision by a grand jury not to indict a white Missouri police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager, with protesters taking to the streets in cities from Oakland to New York.

St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch announced the grand jury had chosen not to indict Officer Darren Wilson, who gunned down Michael Brown, 18, on a street in Ferguson on Aug. 9. The grand jury had options from first-degree murder to no charge at all.

In New York, protesters held up a poster reading "Black Lives Matter." In Oakland, about 100 demonstrators marched to the police department, local media reported.

"The racism in this acquittal is breathtaking. THIS MUST NOT STAND. We must stand up collectively. DEMAND JUSTICE," tweeted CODEPINK, a social justice, grassroots movement.

"My thoughts are with family of Michael Brown and the Ferguson community. I'm echoing their calls for peace / nonviolence," tweeted Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.....

Sorry Honey, but this wasn't an "acquittal". It was a finding by a grand jury that there isn't any evidence the cop committed a crime. Jeesh....

What were they trying to indict him for? It wasn't cold-blooded murder, Michael Brown had already attacked the Officer, and from witness accounts, after walking away, when he would have lived, chose instead to show his butt, turn around and run the Officer down. He was a much bigger man than the officer, by all accounts, and could have done some real damage to the officer, if the officer hadn't protected himself. By the placement of the bullets, it seemed as though the officer was trying first to shoot to warn, then shoot to slow Michael Brown down, then shoot to wound, but, because Brown went into a head butting stance, the last couple of shots got him in the head. The Grand Jury had no other choice but to NOT indict him on murder, or even manslaughter charges, because it was self-defense.

Of course, all that will be lost on the perpetually aggrieved, like the race hustlers, poverty pimps, and CodePink.

The Grand Jury was impaneled in May for the entire St. Louis County Area. The makeup accurately reflects the composition of the County per local News reports.

The problem is that, as it was with the Rodney King decision, the media created expectations that the evidence did not support. So people began believing what they heard on the the TV, and when the legal system didn't support that, they blamed it on 'whitey', and a legal system that's rigged against black people.

Sadly, too many in the media don't bother with evidence, they're too interested in how people FEEL, which is irrelevant to the legal system, as it should be. I'm glad the Grand Jury released its findings and the evidence used to support it. Of course, for the perpetually aggrieved, it will make absolutely no difference, but maybe the people who read it with open minds will begin to understand WHY the police officer was not indicted, even though there were 5 choices given for doing so.
