EPA get out of my life. Ice/Water dispensers filters now low flow (Vanity rant)
Samsung parts ^ | 11/21/2014 | Me

Low flow toilets, low flow hose nozzles now apparently low flow refrigerator water dispensers. I recently purchased the third replacement water filter for my Samsung refrigerator. Mine last about 9 months before water flow has been reduced. I put the new one in then dispensed water to flush it. The water flow was about the same as the old filter. I removed the new filter and discovered the hole in the end used to be ice pick sized was now large paperclip sized. Thanks EPA now it takes twice as long to fill a glass of water. I will curse you at least twice a day.

It can easily be made ice pick size with an ice pick.

Enlarge the hole! Did it to my showerhead, much better flow!

So - why not ream it out with an ice pick?

Can you enlarge the exit hole for the filter?

Last two shower heads I installed, they had a flow limiter disk in them. I took it out. They work just fine.

Nothing like trying to rinse off with a trickle of water.

No thanks...

The section under the tip has also been redesigned with much smaller openings

Back in the 70s when cars came out that required unleaded fuel (about 5 cents more per gallon on a 50 cent gallon) we built an extruder tool that opened up the fill neck insert to the old “leaded” size.

Worked great. I suggest a similar approach.

The original low flow shower heads and faucets came with a removable restricting inserts. You removed them before installation. The next generation of faucets and shower heads came out with built in restrictions which you drilled out prior to installment. The last kitchen faucet I bought had the restrictor built in where I could not access it.

I saw a funny story about a urologist doing this with some of his medical tools (non-sterile practice ones).

He got much better flow with his water plumbing just like he does with his patients' plumbing.

If you removed ALL govt mandate stuff from the average car it would cost half as much. We pay dearly to be "regulated".

The goal (over time) is to raise the price of vehicles to a point where the masses are forced onto public transportation.
Individual vehicles give statists nightmares, allowing unlimited mobility.

“The water flow was about the same as the old filter. I removed the new filter and .... Thanks EPA now it takes twice as long”

I don’t understand. You say the flow is “about the same”? Or is that not good enough?

Really? Is that all there is?

I love being at my parents’ (only 10 min away) because they largely have their old plumbing. But they did replace finally a 40-year-old head and it is low-flow, stinks compared to the monsoon from the bathtub.

Could we just take that apart easily and remove this?

I would love to do it in our home, too.

But what REALLY kills me here is the toilets. Only the 2 American Standards work well, and sometimes the oval one isn’t perfect. The round version never fails.

My parents had the great old toilets, before the 1.6. Unfortunately, they “had to” get rid of their master the other year, because the contractor said it just is too dirty inside (ie, passages out are too gummed up?). I fear for the other 2 there.

The GOP could be much more popular if they dealt with these kind of issues, that tyrannize everyone for no good reason, including light bulbs.

Wait till they modify boys at birth for low flow.

PS as an old guy, I’m becoming EPA compliant.
