WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Two homosexual men in North Carolina have filed a complaint against their United Methodist minister for refusing to marry them, stating that he has failed to perform the work of the ministry.
Scott Chappell and Kenneth Barner, who attend Green Street United Methodist Church in Winson-Salem, filed the complaint with the Western North Carolina Office of the United Methodist Church late last month, charging their leader, Kelly Carpenter (male), with discrimination.
On October 26, 2014, we asked Carpenter to officiate at our wedding and he has refused to do so, citing church rules from the United Methodist Book of Discipline that forbids pastors from celebrating homosexual unions or performing same-sex wedding ceremonies, the complaint reads. Carpenters refusal to perform our wedding violates our rights as members of his church and my fiance and I wish to charge him for this offense.
It further outlines that Chappell and Barner are active members of the congregation, and that Barner is the current chair of the Leadership Council and often leads the praise and worship portion of the service. The two became engaged during a Sunday service before the congregation.

Well besides being perverts they are idiots. The Ministry of God never condones sin. It forgives sin and offers salvation for those tt confess their sin, sin no more and accept Jesus Christ as their savior.
Obviousy these homosexual have not done that and have no intention of doing that. There intention is to attack the Church and God..
Best fix? Simply..
Each State should summarily remove itself from the “marriage license” business, altogether.
The church should, likewise, remove itself from codifying such relationships.
The IRS (”married filing jointly/separately) would then have to restructure the code.
Conservatives can then get their hooks into the IRS and do what is best for the people of the US.
Not sure what you're saying here. Why would the UMC "have to"?
She shore is purdy!
Now, let us, for a moment, consider the fact that Methodist ministers are selected by the congregation, or a committee thereof. The "couple" could petition the ministerial committee (or whatever they are calling them these days) to replace the current minister with one who would accede to their wishes. But simply plopping your butt into a pew every Sunday ("being active") does not give you the ability to demand that the current minister deny his personal beliefs.
They have to decide whether to recognize them.
Anyway you look at it, it’s going to be messy. The UMC will probably lose 1/3 of its members over same-sex marriage.
Church today, government court tomorrow. This is a setup.
You faggots targeted a clergy, for the sole purpose of advancing your agenda.
If you truly wanted to be married you would have engaged the services of someone who has no problem with your goofball “union”.
FOAD and Burn in Hell.
Self serving crazies...
You must be from Montana.................B^)
They’ll simply pull a Church’s tax exemption if they refuse to allow gay marriages.
(Where we just got through de-electing a whole bunch of demonrat politicians ...)
This isn’t the Soviet Union or Third Reich. No one should be forced into doing something that they don’t want to do.
Here we go... like you said, we’ve all been waiting for it... this is when 1A dies.
I’ve been saying the same.....grrr.
Does anyone other than me remember how often we were told that this would never happen?
The problem is that government can’t ever give you anything without taking it away from someone else, that’s not how it works.
Hmm... Never let an unrepentant sinner lead anything at a church. It is really quite Biblical.
This is what happens when you give an enemy a seat at the table.
I’ll go further, it is to destroy the church itself.
The members of this church are bound by their discipline. These two should be ordered to pay the legal fees the pastor is going to incur because of this. They should also be stripped of their membership.
“Oh, no, this will never be used to jail Christian ministers - don’t be thilly!”
